10 GERMAN HABITS I HAVE ADOPTED

While living abroad people adopt new habits and lose some old ones. During my life in Germany, I have adopted 10 German habits which stuck with me probably for the entire life!

I am Anna – an explorer, traveler, and global citizen who originated in Mother Russia. As an american, I had to relearn how to use the knife and fork otherwise I stand out when eating. In the US, people will use the knife and fork to cut up their whole meal to bite-sized pieces, then put down the knife and just use the fork to eat with your other hand on your lap. In Germany, I guess that is quite rude in nicer restaurants to do that. I didn't know I stood out so much!

Concerning planning and appointments: this is a habbit we have adopted based on the fact that nowadays everybody can be reached by mobile phone. In my childhood (born 1954) this was completely unknown. When visiting family or friends on Sundays we just approached without prior notification. I sometimes wish we'll get back to this 'unorganized habbits'.

It is true that we love bread in Germany and we eat it at any time of the day. May be you didn`t know that therefor breakfast ist called breadfast or even fastbread.
An other example is that the ideom "take a brak" is called in german "take a bread". A headache is called breadache and mad is called bread. - (just joking).

Ich staune immer wieder deine Kenntnis, was ich von dir mag, du redest positiv, wenn du mal etwas sagst was dir vielleicht nicht gefällt, du sagst es so nett das man es nicht nagativ abnimmt. Sie sollten eine Beraterin sein.
Was ich mag das du einfach alle die Hand gibst, auch die alten, ich schätze es von junge Leute Mädchen das die mir die Hand gibt, ich habe mal 1949 zum ersten mal das Licht gesehen. Ich mag junge Leute Mädchen unterstützen und ermutigen für ihre Zukunft.

for me opinion you are a beautiful, amazing, lovely young woman with the best habits of both countries.
You did a lot of wonderful videos about difficult topics, what helps a lot to understand each other a lot better and to improve the relationship between these two cultures.

Smiling is normal for all western Europe in my point of view... France... Belgium, Italy, Spain, Portugal, England... As I noticed in eastern Europe we have attitude towards smiling like Russians, I'd say...
In Croatia we also eat bread for every meal.... It is normal... we have nice bread :)
Shaking hands? On parties? Too much of it... I noticed the same from Germans... In France they kiss which I prefer much more...
Croatia is kinda same like Russia considering, also, this greeting things...

I have idea, it would be nice if you make Q&A with your subscribers, so you could answer our questions this way :) :)

Ihre Videos sind sehr interessant und ich mag die russische Mentalität. Danke, dass sie in Deutschland in der Krankenpflege arbeiten. Denn hierzulande gibt es viel zu wenig Fachpersonal in der Alten und Krankenpflege. Hoffentlich werden sie in ihrem Job fair behandelt und ich wünsche Ihnen alles Gute.

Das ist eine Sache was sehr gefällt von ihnen, dass sie auch ältere Männer begrüßt und ihnen deine Hand gibst, dass ist viel Wert, ich bin über 70.
Ich nehme an es muss schönes warmes Wetter sein wärend Sie diesen Video drehen, man sieht es an deine Kleidung, schön müsst bequem sein.

Что скажет моя жена Ниночка всегда, без план, немец не идёт на туалет . Meine Frau Nina sagt immer, ohne Plan geht der Deutsche nicht auf die Toilette. Diese Angewohnheit, immer erst zu planen, auch für die Zukunft, war für meine Frau für die erste Zeit hier in Deutschland, ein wenig schwierig. Zu Hause in Weißrussland, war alles ein wenig entspannter. Oft hörte ich von ihr, das ist so typisch Deutsch. Nach 16 Ehejahren ist es jetzt so, sie hat jetzt gewisse deutsche Züge übernommen und ich ein wenig den weißrussischen. Meine Frau manchmal, so im Kommandoton, Robby! Und ich dann etwas entspannter, ну что моя Сонечка? Auf Arbeit ist meine Frau so der mehr preußische Unteroffizier, Kunden die nicht spuren, kriegen eine kurze, knappe Ansage . Ich dagegen fluche manchmal auf Arbeit in russisch. Das überrascht dann meinen Kollegen Mischa, er ist aus Russland, Fluchen und Schimpfworte sind bei uns zu Hause nämlich verboten. Hat so manche Vorteile, eine zweite Sprache zu sprechen, so konnte ich schon mal Kollegen so richtig runterputzen ohne das er mich verstand. Bei Kundenkontakt und ich merke, es sind Russen, spreche ich sie dann auch in Russisch an. Das hilft dann das Eis zu brechen . Wir bekamen vor einiger Zeit einen neuen Lehrling aus Russland, dem konnte ich dann weiterhelfen. Leider sitzt das Misstrauen gegenüber Russland bei meinen Kollegen aus dem Westteil noch relativ tief. Die sehen Russland immer noch als Feind an und alle Handlungen Russlands als aggressiven Akt gegen den Westen an. Unsere Regierung unternimmt auch nichts um das Verhältnis zu Russland zu verbessern. Anstelle das Gespräch zu suchen, reagiert unsere Regierung nur mit Sanktionen, welche uns nun so langsam mehr schaden als nützen.
