The funniest/best comment that has the most likes until the end of the week will get this original gouache disaster 😂

The irony of painting a raining scene, with water colours and have that same painting be destroyed by the rain...

When I use watercolor, and I assume it would be the same with gouache, I use 2 water jars. One for rinsing, one for wetting the brush before dipping into clean paint. I think reorganizing the paint so color families are together would help avoid serious contamination. And who says you can't get your paint dirty with other colors? When it happens, I let it dry and wipe it with a wet towel/rag.

As a gouache painter myself, I can relate to the frustration of the medium not working like how you wanted it to and I know why upon seeing your techniques. Firstly, gouache does not act like watercolour AT ALL - the suitable mindset is oil colours + water as the medium/thinner. And because it isn't watercolour, mixed media brushes are the way to go. WC brushes hold too much water as gouache is meant for rather thick applications. Even with a damped WC brush, you will end up carrying too much gouache to apply on the surface. I personally use synthetic flat brushes and small round brushes for details. Acrylic brushes are great too. Despite everything, the piece ended up looking amazing because you're a great artist!

Also, isn’t it common practice to use two water containers? One to clean most of the paint and the second to clean the last bits and use for mixing

I think the end result of the painting fits the moment in the movie so well; it was all going smoothly until the rain began 😂

alpay: i dont wanna buy new brushes to finish this painting coz im too lazy :(
also alpay: * struggles to finish the painting with dead brushes then buys the new brushes to make a whole new painting and ends up working 3 times as hard *

The painting subject is a very dramatic scene; stressful and filled with drama. That T-Rex was created by man and escaped the cage man tried to contain it in. Some how it is fitting that your painting found a way to escape and create it's own drama/life of it's own. Fitting end to a creative process! Thank you for sharing it with us.

These paints last if you put the middle palette on, then wrap in a snap lock bag, then snap the top lid on… mine are still wet and juicy 20+ months later and I’ve never used water or glycerin with them.
Your art is fab! ❤

That poor painting heard all the terrible things you said about it and tried to run away. 😂 I know you were disappointed in how it turned out, but I think it looks great and somehow the rain disaster just makes it look cooler.

It's not water damage... it's a patina. *chef's kiss*

This feels like one of these scenes where the protaganist says 'well, at least it's not raining' and sure enough the next second it starts raining cats and dogs

Oh, c'mon Alpay. The rain and smuding on the painting just makes it more realistic! You can call it camera blurr with natural details :P

As a fellow artist, I understand your frustration. Here's the thing, it's a part of your journey. Which means, you learned from it and the only place to go from here is to grow from here. The next one will be better, because you have learned from this painting, and if we stop trying new things, we stop learning. I applaud your effort to try something new and for not giving up despite that feeling of not being happy with your work. I think it is perfect the way it is. If you think about it, there are many pieces in history museums that are not perfect or pristine, but it's their unique history and character that makes them so special. I'd love to hang your "total disaster" in my studio to remind me of all of this when I feel the way you did. Thanks for sharing this, it was inspirational to this artist. Best wishes.

For anyone using the Himi Gouache set, putting some Vaseline (petroleum jelly) around the edges of the case helps with the seal a lot. It isn't perfect, but it is something. I don't know if anyone else has posted this yet. I put it around the lid edges to be more specific...

Gouache painting by Alpay, with a touch of ingenuity from the divine.

Ok, this is why I love watching your videos. I spent about 20 hours on this drawing I did about 10 years ago. Like this video, I wasn't vibing with the piece, so I needed to take a step back and tackle it again the next day... only to find one of my animals decided it would make a better chew toy. I immediately started laughing my butt off. Your videos show the life of an artist. Some good, some not so good, but it's important to never look at the art as a failure, and instead a piece you learned from. Even the best artists have moments when it just doesn't go as planned, and your content portrays that perfectly. Thank you for being fun, entertaining, a great artist, and a great teacher of inspiration.

I honestly think the fact that the painting got washed out by the rain actually gives it more character though 💜

It still looks amazing and still captures the iconic scene, which is one of my favorites from the movie.
