A weird thing I noticed, the EEVblog lab vibrates!

Now build a resonator at that frequency and bring down the building

what you have there is a tuned mess :)

Now we wait for someone to send in an old seismometer

Would be interesting to determine the frequency of that vibration.

Perhaps a bowl with water would show up better

This reminds of a 'ghost' story I saw on T.V once. A family thought their house was haunted because a wardrobe door used to suddenly open then BANG shut. Ghost hunters went in and confirmed it was haunted. After some media attention Scientists went in and confirmed it was a neighbour three doors down! Every time they closed their front door air pressure was sent through a void between the floorboards and caused the wardrobe door to open and close. They actually filmed it happening. This isn't probably the case here it just reminded me so I thought I'd share!.

It's finally happened. Too much dumpster diving has made Dave more crazy

Next thing the building collapses from the stress fractures. I would find out who is running gear to do this and make them stop.

Dave has found a new "green" source of energy. Mechanical motion energy source in custom one of a kind EEVblog cardboard boxes. Buy today while supplies last. :-)

Geez Dave, check the walls for cracks... looks like this could be another shonky Australian hi-rise build! :-)

For something to do on a boring day, use your cell phones accelerometer to detect the vibrations. There are numerous apps on the google play store, not sure about apple's app store. Just search "accelerometer" and you'll see tons of apps.

9:45pm (probably the only one in the building) and the vibration is now gone

Many years ago an employer I worked for made a massive upgrade to their mainframes and online storage capacity to tackle a new project that required analyzing much larger datasets (they used statistical analysis to detect collusion in bidding on government projects to assist in legal cases and investigations). After the upgrade, the machine room was absolutely chock full of massive hard drives. The entire wing of that building had a very pronounced low frequency vibration from all those spinning hard drives — you could literally feel the floor moving slightly beneath you in time with the rumble when walking down the hallway that was immediately next to the machine room. A lot of people were suddenly curious why that entire wing of the building had a 24/7 rumble and low frequency vibration when they showed up to work the following Monday morning!

If the building has roof mounted ACs, then its likely that. Either a poorly balanced compressor or fan vibrating the structure.

Setup a measuring device and run it for a week. Check for changes, eg night and weekends. Could point to the building equipment.

As someone who works in commercial construction its amazing how much flex is in a steel and concrete structure especially when driving elevating work platforms around on upper levels even a concrete pump will shake every floor on a high rise building

Maybe it's from the compressors on the main condensing unit of the building? Although I doubt the frequency of the building would resonate with a refrigeration

good old resonant frequencies!...setup an accelerometer on the box and work out the frequency (just make sure to take a 'background" reading first)

Just your neighborhood friendly t-rex taking a nice stroll across the business park... nothing to worry about... :D

Everything vibrates all the time. It doesn't matter whether two things merely touch, are glued to each other or bolted together. They keep moving back and forth and back and forth... Even the atoms within those things are vibrating all the time. Nothing remains perfectly still in everyday life. You can't escape the oscillations!
