EEVblog #764 - New Lab Ceiling LED Lighting Installation

Показать описание
Dave installs a new LED lighting system in the EEVblog lab, with 9 x 60W 600mm 5000k ceiling LED panels.
A look at hermaphroditic connectors.
What kind of lux improvement is there on the bench?
Has the colour rendering index (CRI) changed things?
They cost how much?
A look at Lifud brand LED drivers, with mini teardown of course:

Hello Dave,
I had a similar issue with my lights remote control. I separate them apart and that seemed to solve my issue.
Nice video.

To be fair, your video quality is very well lit to begin with.

I have the same problem with my videos, inadequate lighting. Also have to be careful of shadows.

Worked in an NHS hospital for 5 years as a medical electronics technician where the building owners said 400 lux at the workbenches was fine! I finally brought the work to a halt until it was improved. They doubled the number of fluorescent fittings and it increased to about 1100 lux. I said they should fit LED panels but they hadn't heard of them!

I really like the amount of videos you are releasing! I hope you keep it up!!!!

Probably a long shot, but the Nexa 433MHz remote controlled outlets that I use says that you need at least 1 metre of space between two receivers.

Hi Dave,

Back in my electric vehicle racing days we used a lot of 350 Amp (continuous rating) Anderson Powerpole hermaphrodite connectors. They did them in various colours, which would only mate with matching colours.

A lot of UPS units use them, or a special low insertion force version, for the hot swap battery packs.

Dave! those receivers can't be so close to each other that's your problem, check the back it probably says 30 centimeter distance minimum!

When you said reflections the first thing that popped into my head is signal integrity relections

My homelab is small only 12m squared but I'm going to install to 30x120cm panels of 3400 lumen 4000k each. On top of that I have extra LED lighting above the bench. It will be well illuminated for sure.

Dave, just go all the way and replace every tile with those LED panels. ;) The real way to go would be running ones with low voltage dimming, and put them all on a single dimmer that kicks on 10% brightness when you switch it on. I popped a pair of 24, 000 lumen panels in my garage on a fancy Lutron 0-10v dimmer. It's setup to always turn on at min brightness, which takes like 50W but is reasonably bright as far as garages go. If you need more light, just dial it up. It's nice to have too much light on tap.

Those connectors look like Anderson PowerPole knockoffs. Nice design. Although the PowerPoles slot together so you can configure plugs with different colors and shapes that only plug in one way. Really great if you're doing funny things like battery voltage switching for charging/discharging.

Everyone would want these in there offices and shops after seeing the video.

Nice one. By the way: don't forget the ATL HDI3000 Ultrasound Machine. Perhaps a good teardown/repair with the better light.

You should have a grid with overheads...you can setup key, fill, lights.
Lighting IS important!
