I came back to the lab with a wet vacuum having been caught in a 2nd storm cell with giant hail. Has the lab flooded any more?

You have such a positive attitude about this. I would be devastated.

In Canada if you're fully insured you just call your insurance company and they'll send a disaster recovery company out to deal with the immediate issues and stabilize the damage. Failure to do so may actually limit your coverage after an incident.

"Up next" list are all kid's videos, WTF!?

The carpet is probably fine, industrial carpet can likely take it, insurance should get in pro carpet cleaning company to properly clean it and dry it out.

@EEVblog2 If you get on to a carpet cleaner/recovery team they will use industrial vacuums to get into the underlay and also use dehumidifiers that will pull the moisture out of the air and cause it to come out of the carpet and collect in catchment on the units but you need to get on to them right away for it to be successful, my mate used to do flood recovery you won't have to replace the carpet or empty the lab but it has to be done right away...

You're handling this way better than I would. This would devastate my business even if insurance covered everything. Time lost can't be reimbursed. Best of luck Dave this sucks

Well, you get a huge opportunity to make a bunch of diagnosis and repair videos on water damaged equipment.

I predict lots of water damaged electronics in the magic trash room. No bets on whether Dave and David are adding or removing it this time.

It’s good that you’re laughing about this - being pissed off and angry won’t solve any problems!

A brutal situation, Dave. The only positive to come out of it may be the plethora of good stuffs in the dumpster. Keep us apprised.

I think YouTube is making light if your problems. Almost the next video it's algorithm decided to offer me after this one was for 10 hours of the relaxing sound of rain.
Hope you get this sorted mate, really enjoy your vids

I'll second the suggestions for dehumidifiers. I had my dads flat flooded and within a week it had moulded up so bad it was unhealthy to be in there, once the mould sets in you are screwed.
In this case dehumidifiers weren't an options as the water had flooded all the main fuse boxes as the water found it's way down the conduit from the floor above. It was so bad that the water had come through the external brickwork at floor/ceiling level outside!
Anything made of MDF that gets wet is best replaced too, MDF is like a breeding ground for mould for some reason.

Good luck with the cleanup.

For sopping up big messes like that, pig mat comes in handy. Essentially just industrial sized paper towels. Just make sure you get the water absorbing type and not the oil absorbing type. They are very tough and can be reused.

You need to get some dehumidifiers in there - the high humidity won’t do all your electronics any good!

You need to ditch those cardboard boxes for large plastic ones with lids, raise everything off the floor with trolleys or soemthing else and rearrange the whole lab so that if it floods again, you'll lose nothing :)
I've had a flood in my apartment years back and I was lucky I had done that to make it easier to clean the apartment... I lost nothing for the flood :)
