Basically the volume of food is causing the temporary weight gain, not the actual calorie value. Once your metabolism starts using the food more efficiently, the weight will come down

Thus is why I measure my weight by my belt. My scale hasn't fluctuated more than 10lbs but I've shortened my belt by 4 inches and I'm on track to cut off 2 more soon.

I guess the missing piece is time in her statement.
If you’ve been in a “deficit” for 3 months and not moving, then she is probably correct.

Most people also don’t realize that there is also a 20% error margin for the calories listed in the nutritional information. Your 2000 calories can easily be 2400. Which is why focusing on just making small changes to eat better and move more will win in the long run.

You’re like our Jimminy Cricket. You are honest and kind and logical and always have what’s best for us in your heart.
Unlike everyone else out there. Who judge and are nasty.
Thank you honey ❤

Bro I needed this 😂 I've been counting calories and finally exercising!! And yet today im 0.2 grams up. I tried to remind myself its that time of the month and also the physical weight of the food i ate the day before and the water I've been drinking, but its so hard to fear that you're STILL not doing enough 😢

So true. I realized this a few months ago because i weigh myself every morning and night. Im making my goals slowly but surely.

Another potential answer is muscule. Depends on how big the deficit is and how much you work out, but you keep working out and the scale doesn't seem to move after months, it may just be a different kind of weight. Obviously case by case basis, but is something to at least think about

You can also hit platoes for any reason. It's ok to not see immediate change. Be patient with yourself. Maintaining is a win, too.

For anyone who has doubts, this guy is great and can help! Also as someone who has lost 226lbs going from 425lbs to 199lbs ive had my share of ups and downs lol.... So just went on holiday for a week and I ate whatever I wanted and had a grand old time.

I came home and my weight had gone from 198lbs to 208lbs !! at one time I would have freaked out so much.. No longer, one week of back to normal diet and exercise (Just walking) in 6 days im already down to 201 lbs .

Nearly all the weight game was just water weight and tbh any fat gain was probably just 1 maybe 2 lbs at best, trust me when I say I really did eat everything and anything.

So when someone says arent you on a diet you shouldnt eat that one chocolate bar or cake! ignore them its ok to have treats just make sure its balanced.

I think i read somewhere that your weight can go up at the start of a new diet because your body isnt use to digesting the new foods you're eating which i guess could cause a buildup of food due to slower digestion

Yea and fat cells dont just vanish into thin air before you breathe and sweat it out. Water displacement will occur so the fat cells are gone but the water is still there so the scale didn’t change. Just weigh yourself once a week in the morning and focus more on the diet. But the lady is right a lot of people are just delulu.

I couldn't work for 3 years because of mental and physical health issues. None of my health problems were related to hormones. Severe PTSD and depression and anxiety that was so bad it was causing psychosis. I got rTMS therapy and trauma therapy and the pounds started shedding immediately. I couldn't afford to eat. And many days, I didn't eat because that meant I would have had to leave my bed. There's so many things outside of calories that can make your body hold onto fat even in a deficit. Lets not even get into the people who don't eat enough on purpose and then eat a reasonable number of calories here and there. One of the things that helped me start losing again after a plateau was making sure I was getting ENOUGH calories.

Checking your weight first thing after waking up and before breakfast can also give you a more accurate read of your weight. But probably how your clothes fit over time will give you the more accurate read on fat loss vs muscle gain.
