If you're not losing weight you are NOT in a calorie deficit. You will plateau at certain points, but eventually you'll keep losing weight as long as you ARE in a deficit. Track weight over a week not day by day. You're welcome I saved y'all 12 mins.

So adaptive thermogenesis is a real thing. My wife and I have done yo yo dieting for years. We would go from eating super low calories, we’d drop 10lbs, then hit a plateau, no matter what our weight wouldn’t go down. Get frustrated then quite all together.

Well this time we decided to try and find our maintenance calories, for us that was around 2700 calories. We did that for a month gaining on average about 2 lbs total by the end of the month, which could just be water weight fluctuations. We are now lowering our calories to 2200 for a modest 500 calorie deficit. Adjusting those calories as we lose weight sustainably.

The point being, I think people underestimate how much they can actually eat because they don’t take the time to find their maintenance calories then they eat too little, for too long, and their energy levels drop, they can’t get through their workouts, they get adaptive thermogenesis which slows their weight loss, then get angry and just quit.

Be patient with yourself, find your maintenance calories for a month, and then go down 500 cals. Take a month and you will feel a lot better I guarantee.

I've been working out, fasting, and eating in a calorie deficit for six weeks, with 2 rest days (alternate active/passive) a week. Hitting 10k+ steps about 4-5/7 days, and spending about 1.5-2 hours in the gym 5 days a week. - mostly weights.

The scale didn't move, so I did three things: fixed my sleep schedule, ate more protein, started doing my cardio after my weights, and realized I was doing too much cardio over my 90% maximum heartrate and wearing myself out (something I apparently did when I was younger, too, without realizing it). That last one, I didn't realize you weren't supposed to spend as much time in that range - I thought that's what vigorous exercise meant!

So I adjusted those things.

I've woken up to baggier and baggier pants for three mornings in a row.
Arms are more defined, I'm lifting a lot heavier, and able to run for longer periods of time.

Scale still hasn't moved, but I feel great.

But hey, while I might not be ready for bikini season, I'm down with being better able to thrive rather than just survive if I was in a rough situation out in the wilderness, because I reeeeally want to go hike some mountains again.

Something I found that skewed my calories counting was cooked vs not cooked. My Fitness Pal has separate entries for this. For example pork lion cooked for 4.8 oz shows as 259 calories but non cooked would be 144 calories. Makes sense since cooked is water removed so you get more of the meat versus uncooked.

What if you are doing everything right but still not losing weight? I have lost weight many times in my life, but since hitting my 40s nothing seems to work. I weigh everything I eat and I know for sure that I'm in calorie deficit. It makes no sense.

I'm 4'10 and 3/4 ft, since 10/19 I started eating 1200 cal except one of the days I ate 1337 calories. I lost 5 lbs. I do utilize a scale and measuring cups/spoons to measure my food. I feel good but probably need more protein. Still learning new eating habits. I track on lose it. Thank you for sharing!

Reason why you are not losing weight in a calorie deficit….because you are not eating in a deficit

Mike Isratel and Pete Attia say your body adopts and becomes efficient because it knows it ain't getting enough calories so it has to be efficient so you burn less calories, when you bump up your calories abd reduce them later you start to see results, that's if I understood them well

Ive struggled with weight my entire life... ive lost alot and gained back alot many times in my life.. eating disorders the whole nine yards... i destroyed my metabolism eating too low of calories for the last few years and my weightloss stopped for almost a year.. its so defeating when you're being strick and starving basically and still not getting nowhere... I found this guy a few months ago and it changed my life... seriously. I stopped keto.. I did his calorie calculator and trusted him and started eating double the calories i was (still in a deficit) even though it scared me that i was gunna gain lol and watching my protein like he said. Now im starting to look amazing and dropping fat consistently every week..i cannot express how grateful i am for Eric... dude is so down to earth and he knows his shit!!! If it works for me.. anybody can do it.

I only lost 1.5 pounds in 6 weeks because I kept quitting my calorie deficit. I'm being more strict now. My body looks better though so is it possible I gained muscle and lost more than 1.5 pounds of fat?

Great video! Honestly your brutal honesty is what we all need 😂 however, I’m really curious what is your opinion on reverse dieting to set yourself up with a stronger metabolism.

Going out to eat is what is destroying me with my goals. I’m aiming for 2000 daily but a couple meals out I’m around 2250 average… gotta get it together

Thank you for this video. You are so right. I always do well until the weekend. I’m now trying to count my calories per week so I can plan for eating out dinners. I’m excited to see my results in a month month 👍

I love how everybody says measure calories doesn’t actually tell you that the labels can be up to 20% off so you aren’t ever really counting calories

Available glucose doesn’t allow for fat to be used as fuel. In order to use fat as fuel insulin needs to be controlled. Glucose is always used first for fuel.
