About 20 years ago, I went to a dentist for a routine cleaning and checkup. They told me I had 11 cavities. I decided to not get these “cavities” filled since my teeth were not bothering me. A year later, I went to a different dentist for my checkup and cleaning. Miraculously, this dentist did not find any cavities. Either I had a miraculous cure or the first dentist was a scammer.

I am a 71 year old dentist, retired, and we ran our practice with the following tenets: treat each patient as if they were family or friends, perform only treatment that is necessary, and do not use financial gain as a motivator.. . I was a certified assistant for 34 years. I only worked for ethical Dentists. A few places tried scamming me after I retired. Boy were they shocked when I called them out!!! Actually got one clinic eventually closed because of scamming.😢

I lost all faith in dentists… I was told I had 9 cavities…I asked the assistant which teeth? She showed me all 9…the dentist came in and she stepped out and I asked him which teeth? He pointed to 9 different teeth…that was years ago and I only had 1 cavity ever….

I was scammed by a dentist in Rockville, MD about 20 years ago. They pressured me really hard to do work I didn't really need. I found out years later these guys go to seminars where they learn to practice "creative diagnosis." I'm still suffering today from what they did to me. The love of money really is the root of all evil.

Hygienist of over 12 years here and I completely agree with all of this. Dentists who over treat are more common than not in my experience. I don’t blame most people for not trusting dentistry. It’s so disheartening and embarrassing that our profession is known for this. There are still good ones out there, but they can be hard to find 😔.

I'm a dentist and I thoroughly agree with this message. I saw a lady who went to a dental corporation and was given a treatment plan that would be $13, 500. She came to me for a second opinion. She needed a one-surface filling and a simple cleaning.

I have been a dental hygienist for over 40 years. Wow, you've hit the nail on the head. I have experienced all you have stated, either by docs I have worked for or friends/family who tell me what their dentisit is doing.
