Bullying you to get expensive services you don’t need

High staff turnover should also be a red flag. If there are new hygienists, assistants and front office every time you see your dentist that should be a red flag.

Me, a dentist, watching this because I don’t want to be a red flag 😞

Biggest red flag in a dentist office. When they quote you a price for work needed to be done that equals out to a house down payment which also includes insurance.

I'm a dentist, and I agree with all the red flags. Unfortunately, dentistry is very subjective. What may seem to one doctor a cavity too small to need a filling, maybe to another doctor, a cavity worth filling. I see patients all the time that tell me their previous doctor diagnosed them with 10 cavities, when to me, only 4 need to be filled. Some Dentists are conservative, and some are aggressive. Unfortunately, this creates a lot of confusion for patients.

1. 0:30 no dental hygienist
2. 0:57 no perio charting
3. 1:45 fast appointments
4. 2:35 xray frequencies
5. 3:45 dirty office - infection control
6. 5:15 bad communication

I think that one that was not mentioned, is when you have some offices that have extremely rude staff. Especially the ones that talk badly about patient. That to me I feel is not only unprofessional. But it shows me what kind of people they are.

My dentist has a receptionist missing half her teeth. That feels like a red flag.

My dental hygienist niece warned me there is much poor to sloppy hygienist performance too. She said it did not used to be this way even ten years ago. It was simply not tolerated. Thank you for this! People must be extremely cautious WHERE they go to the dentist!

I go to a small dental practice, and my dentist is the one who cleans my teeth rather than the hygienist. I love that.

Taken to the dentist as a 10 yr old child. The dentist told my mother that I had 11 cavities. I was a total brat and refused to go back to get them filled. My mom kept telling me how I was going to get a toothache. Went to another dentist at age 18. He found no cavities. So what happened to the 11 I'm so glad I was a brat. That first dentist's ruined my obedient siblings mouths while I never had one cavity in my entire life and I'm 68.

Not a dentist, but at an orthodontist office in the Albany New York area, where they were spreading mononucleosis because of their poor hygiene practices on the open floor plan cubicles. This is a huge multi million dollar private orthodontic Business. Escalade’s and Jaguars parked out back. Needless to say I had to reach out to the health department. They gave my son mono. They would go and open drawers with the dirty gloves, and then come back to the patient’s mouth with the dirty gloves on and put them in the patient’s mouth. They also would clean up and set up for the next patient with the dirty gloves on from the previous patient. I barely could believe my eyes.

I had a dentist tell me once i needed laser treatment for my gums. I denied it and also didnt have the money. Went to a different dentist and I asked him about it. He said, no your gums healthy. You don't need such a treatment! I love that whole office. Its small but great. 😊

I’m 29 and I had periocharting done for the first time last month at my new dentist. You really don’t know what you’re missing out on when you’ve never had the opportunity for proper dental care.

This helped so much, I had an experience when I was in my late teens, my current dentist wouldn’t listen to my concerns. So I told my parents and I switched to a great provider, thank you Whitney for this video!

My old dentist was ripping me off so bad for 3 years . The staff were inconsiderate, rude and just rough while working in your mouth . During the pandemic one hygienist had no face mask and was constantly coughing . I finally gave in and wrote a review stating my experience . Now I am happy with my new dentist .The staff are friendly, very knowledgeable and extra clean oh and affordable 😊

Another red flag is when the front desk person/receptionist constantly changes the dates of your appointments without telling you then tries to charge you a "cancellation fee" for not being to attend an appointment you didn't change and were never informed of the change and that persons tries to blame you. Happened after our regular dentist sold his practice to someone else and all of the staff changed as a result. New receptionist was constantly changing all of our appointments on us without telling us and then blaming us for it. Found a new dentist and haven't had a single issue with this.

Just made me love my dentist, because she has none of these red flags. I see her every 3 months for perio cleanings, and she explains in ways that I can understand everything, and also keeps my anxiety at bay. I absolutely adore her, and it took me years to find a dentist I could trust because I don't like any type of doctors. Thank you for your simple way of letting me know my dentist is a wonderful one!

My dentist when I was a child didn't wear gloves or a mask. Literally hated going to the dentist. A year or so ago I found a great dentist and it's made my life so much better. Got me a waterpik and a sonic toothbrush. My mouth hasn't been this healthy in years! Love your videos 📹
