Several patients are speaking out against a Wisconsin dentist who they say drilled their teeth when they didn’t need any work done. Scott Charmoli faces decades in prison following his conviction for healthcare fraud. Prosecutors say he did unnecessary drilling to get the insurance money. At the height of his scam, prosecutors say Charmoli billed more than $4 million for crown procedures. About 100 former patients are now suing the dentist for malpractice and battery.

And they wonder why people don’t trust their healthcare providers. This is such a disgusting display of greed. These people came to the doctor for help and ended up with more problems. Such a shame 🤦🏽‍♀️

Finding a good dentist is the hardest thing ever.

Dentists do this often. It’s disgusting. They know that the average person cannot read X-rays.

Happened to our family. Root canals, multiple visits, crowns. And we paid thousands in cash for this abuse. Went to another dentist when the man (not this guy) said more root canals and some extractions were indicated. It was all only simple fillings. The unchecked corruption in this industry is appalling.

I'm grateful that my dentist is genuine and caring.

The dentist my family used to go to that went to as a kid did this. They destroyed my teeth and my mom's. Now iv learned to read my xrays myself and I found a dentist that actually cares about his patients

So, story time. 📖

My mom loved this dentist clinic in our city, because she and her entire family always received great service. I myself grew up going to this clinic, and up until I was 22– I continued as a patient.

His daughter was my dentist, since her father had retired.
I trusted her completely, and was very stressed when I learned I had three cavities. I decided to wait to take care of it, since I was really low on funds.

About a year later, I went to a new dentist because my dental insurance changed. I expressed to him about how I was stressed about my 3 cavities since I procrastinated on taking care of them.
He was very surprised and perplexed, and checked my teeth 3 times, and even took a second x-ray, and said he saw no cavities.

He easily could have lied, but instead he saved me over $300.00.

I left feeling both relieved and deeply betrayed. I knew this woman my entire life, and she tried to scam me!
She knew my family intimately, my mom bought a house from her, and she knew that I was a college student and very overwhelmed. It was despicable.

Be very careful who you trust— I’ve heard it said more than once that finding a good dentist is like trying to find a trustworthy auto mechanic! Very difficult!

"No one likes going to the dentist" - Very true. And this will add up more reluctance to attend an appointment. Truly disgusting.

This happened to me as a child, I had 9 teeth removed at age 11. They insisted that it was necessary. Later, an orthodontist was horrified at what I went through. He corrected my adult teeth and I haven't been back to a dentist since. It's been 20+ years.

Absolutely sickening. I hope he goes to prison and other inmates rearrange his teeth for a change.

This has been going on for years. That's the worst thing a dentist can do. Everything hurts to eat

Someone needs to start checking out their practices because this is going on everywhere

This happened to me. When I was in college, my mom scheduled all of my appointments over the summer. My first dental appointment, they said my teeth were very healthy. 6 months later, they said I had 8 cavities. My mom and I immediately thought that was suspect, as how is that possible? I ate healthy at school and had no pain or tenderness. We left and didn't follow up for the "cavities". I'm now 31 and never actually had any issues at all.

Guess what? Most dentist do that to some extent. It’s disgusting. I went to three different dentists. Two of them said I had lots of cavities. Two of them pointed at X-rays in different directions 😂. They told me I am not the dentist when I told them I don’t see anything in the X-ray. Only one of them was honest enough to tell me that I had no cavities. What a society we live in.

That's why it's important to get second opinions, heck even a third. I pay cash for my dental work and it's amazing how they bill you differently for the same work.

This happened to me too, and then he blamed it on sugary drinks that I NEVER drink. I complained through the health service, but he put me through a lot of pain I didn’t need when I was already dealing with a very painful abscess. Absolutely disgusting.

Now I wish I sued him.

It's sad that so many businesses such as mechanics, appliance repairmen, handymen, etc do take advantage of people.

My little sister had this happen to her. From a dentist we thought we “trusted!”
We love our new dentist, always goes over everything and very professional! Love Dr. Hamaty office and staff!
