I believe I saw the ghost of Mrs. Forepaugh, when my family and I were at Forepaugh's for dinner one evening in the early 1980's. I passed a very well-dressed, upper-class lady in period dress on the way to the restroom and she nodded at me. When I returned to the table, I commented to our waiter how wonderful it was that they had some staff in period costumes, he smirked and told me that they didn't, and that I must have seen one of their "oldest residents." Food was delicious, by the way! And it is re-opening later this year sometime.

Grey Cloud Island is also pretty creepy. Years ago, my sister and her husband (who live in St Paul Park) went for a walk on the island. When they were near the cemetery, “someone” pushed both of them to the ground. They got back up, only for “someone” to push them back down again, and they physically could not stand up for about two minutes, despite no serious wounds. Cemetery is an Indian burial site.

This weekend I’m staying at the St. James Hotel in Red Wing, which is also considered haunted. Room is on the third floor, where most of the paranormal events occur. The basement bar has also had a lot of activity. I’m bring a crucifix.

Forepaugh's employees would hear footsteps after hours when nobody was up on the floors - like last employee there for the night would hear things when alone in the building. Sometimes they would light candles on the tables in a certain room, They would come back and all the candles would be out - a server told us that. Also, a certain corner in one of the rooms - diners would complain about how cold it was in that spot, even during warm weather. It is a very cool old house - wish it hadn't closed.
