the "ben franklin" effect is something I've never heard of and it is a brilliant way to present this aspect of relationships. ofc it has to be asking for help they can deliver on or it has the opposite effect haha

I’ve been keeping a career journal and google doc with my work projects. It’s been helping me update my experience/resume and retain new skills. I’m glad to see the notebook/ diary mentioned in this video :)

I thought it was interesting that they mention the onboarding process at some companies being poorly handled. That just happened to me this week. The HR lady was very discourteous and rude to me because I had a misunderstanding with the paperwork. She even shouted at me at one point. When she left the room I scrapped the whole deal and walked out. The shame of it all is that I had 30 years of experience in my field that I was bringing to their company, and they had to treat me like a big schmuck. Their loss.

So, much of the online info about careers is fuzzy, feel good, "how to make a good impression" stuff that relies effectively on sales techniques. Nothing wrong with that. But this is not that. This content is practical. Filled with techniques and tips that will not just make a good impression, but will actually make you more productive and valuable in a real sense.

Clear and straightforward delivery. Good stuff!
