Thank you! You just saved me $5500 ... I was just about to buy a C70 but you're correct. I really don't need to.

For me the C70 has been a superb investment, it’s just so easy to work with. Long battery life, NDs, superb audio interface, lovely image. Having everything in one box takes so much pressure off when working. Having used mirrorless in the past I would not want to rely on one again for a long day of one man band production, it’s just too stressful. The image of this camera is just a bonus. I would also consider a FX6 but you just can’t get hold of one.

As a c70 owner myself, I COMPLETELY agree with you, I like my c70 but I’ve never been in love with the image. Something about the texture of Sony’s image has me intrigued

same sensor as c300m3 and pair with arri, and color science for grading needs a sensor that has great hue seperation and clean base noise, for those filmmakers and colorist who understand and need that quality and color. On the other hand, when you under expose or try to pull out the shadow, you can try it with pcc6k pro and fx3. Your point is werid, it seems like the fan noise, the full frame, those sort of mirrroless things are all you care about, becauese you even didn't know c70 on raw has way better color retentansion than havc when you do grading, that fx6/s3 only has 12 usable dynamic range all the time, and with bad color tune split. You are definitly a sony fan boy or what i would say, full fram mirro less lover, who is not a true cinematographer that knows what a cinema camera should be focus on. those who doesn't understand the value of this sensor is not c70's fault

Overall the C70 is an upgrade to every mirrorless camera that I've shot with...I own the R5, and I've owned Panasonic S1H, GH5, Sony A7III and Ive shot a bunch with the A7SIII and when you consider the full experience, features and package, it's not even close...It takes a lot of rigging and workaround for most mirrorless cameras to do what the C70 does natively. It does look softer than the high end Mirrorless cams but if you add a tiny bit of sharpness in post it looks better than those same mirrorless. I think it's more like an Optical Low Pass Filter rather than a soft image.

I completely agree this is a camera for people that know what they are doing, what they need and what they want.
Also the true potential of this and any camera really is unlocked by the hands of the user and the lens it is coupled with.

With RF lenses this camera is just a beast! I run it with the RF 24- 70 F2.8L and a senheisser 416 and it just blows me away how much can I acomplish with such a small carry

Some valid comments. I have pimped mine out with a Zacuto cage & handles that turn 360 plus the ZFinder built for the C70. I'm coming from the Camcorder world and yes their XF605/705 have better build quality. The image quality is just insane and I am determined to adapt. I've bought mini XLR connectors that will go directly from all my wireless mics. Well done on great video

It‘s simple: if you‘re a true Filmmaker go for the c70. If you‘re a youtube / wannbe filmmaker go for the fx3 / R5. Those are not Filmcameras. Oversharped and bad color science. But they look good out of the box for the regular content-guy.
If you like film and if you want to invest time for learning a real cinema camera, the c70 will give you one of the best looking Pictures out there at this price point.

I really wish I had watched this before buying two C70s. You’re spot on. For what I do the autofocus is such a let down. Which is why I am switching to Sony. The battery is great nd is great. Build quality isn’t great. Autofocus is way too unreliable.

I prefer the image from this camera but I’m not making movies. With events the Sony line with good low light and great autofocus is better for me.

Way way too many video reviews are done people who were sent the camera for review therefor are careful not to upset the people that send them the cameras to review.

This was everything I have been thinking. I just got one and I am thinking hard about switching to the fx3.

I agree with most of these points and was trying to hold out to see what the R5C would be like, but I’m happy with it. The codecs are easy to edit, there are a lot of monitoring options, the SD cards and full-size HDMI port are convenient, and I love the ND filters. I would have liked full-frame and don’t care for the focal reducer, but the Sigma zoom works fine, and my Tilta cage smoothes out most of the awkward design choices. It’s kind of a nuisance to put on a gimbal, but it does work. I’m not really sure what I would have been happier with

all your problems seems like a sony full frame fanboy who doesn't need the color seperation and high dynamic range as well as under expose recovery, who doesn't value the image that often get paired with arri camers, and even doesn't notice the noise pattern and color retention differnces between the raw in post production, C70 is a mini c300 m3, and you don't recognize the vlaue is not c70's problem, it might because you are still a youtuber instead of a filmmaker

What a Great summary. Exactly what I was looking for. Loving your content.

Problem with this camera is there is the R5c and R3. Around the same price.
These cameras are excellent and do more, better AF and look sharp due to the down sampling. It makes it had to pick a cropped sensor camera just for NDs.
I have the R3 and it is a fantastic camera, even the 1080p looks like 4k, (it must be down sampled) very good. No fan noise to worry about or overheating. Fantastic battery life too. The only problem i find with the R3 is there is a magenta tinge in the video which is a pain straight out of camera, but i have worked out how to work with this. Yeah so why buy the C70?

i really really appreciate your views on the camera. it's nice to see both pros and cons from various videographers. i think i might still invest. i don't really use a lot of the higher frame rates. maybe 60 fps f anything.

As an owner of 2 C70's I agree with a few of your gripes but disagree with many. I also own a C100 mk2 and I do agree that the build quality is a small step down from their other cinema line cameras. I'll agree that the LCD is flimsy, but after a few uses I've gotten accustomed to it's quirkiness. The supplied handle is fine for me. Don't have a problem with it. The back scroll wheel has never been hit accidentally either. Yes, Autofocus is horrible on the C70, I 100% am in agreement there. Griping about the mini XLR's is quite a reach as an $8 adapter is easily accessible and lives in my kit. Image quality is amazing, the DGO sensor is able to create an image that retains highlights and shadows equally and I will always take that over sharpness. Sure, if you stacking this up against the R5c it will lose in image sharpness, but I've never had a client ask me for sharper 4k. While I completely understand your sentiments, I whole heartedly believe a camera is a tool and if you learn to use the tools you have you can create some amazing images.

This is not an entry-level cinema camera. You stated that a couple of times. This camera, despite the build, is on the same level as the C300 III and C500. I work with film crews and have noted that. Coming from the DSLR world, you will see a big jump in performance and imagery. It's also about the lenses.

Complaining about the top handle? Really? Seems like such a shallow gripe.

Damn, right when I was ready to pull the trigger on the C70. A comparison with the FX3 would be great!
