Windows 10 Users Forced To Upgrade to Windows 11
It seems Windows 10 users are being tricked and tempted by Microsoft to upgrade to Windows 11. These popups happen during the start up process of Windows and when at the desktop. You can decline, but its easy to make a mistake and when you restart you will have Windows 11 installed on your computer. A lot of people feel that Microsoft are trying to force them to upgrade to Windows 11 with these pop ups messages like, we recommend windows 11 for your device and restart to stay up to date.

Joke's on them, my pc doesn't meet the requirements for Win 11.

It's also worth noting like others have that there is no longer ever a "No" option for windows. It's always "skip" or "not now"
This is some sort of esoteric wording that makes it so when they force the updates, they can say "well, you never explicitly declined so...."

I just love how Microsoft said windows 10 was the last version they will ever make, and it will just receive updates.

Can see microsoft did not learn from the past this was the same nonsense the pulled on windows 7 and windows 8 users with windows 10

Can't be forced to upgrade when your PC doesn't meet the requirements to upgrade

How ironic that TPM 2, the very thing we complained about, is the very same thing we are using to prevent an upgrade by not having TPM 2.0.

There's also a BIOS setting in most machines that makes your computer not meet the system requirements for Windows 11 - in which case, the joke's on them for having such high system requirements.

There was actually a short time in the past when Windows 7 users were updated to Windows 10 even when they declined the upgrade message! So they could easily do this in the future.

You know another workaround is just turn off the TPM in the bios and then windows won’t think you are eligible for the upgrade.

Being the trusting soul that I am I wonder WHY Microsoft are pushing me to 'upgrade?' to W11. Personally I would prefer to UPGRADE to W7.

People need to wake up. If Microsoft con you or force you to upgrade, especially if it causes problems, you need to let everyone know. High time a class action was taken against Microsoft.

See, this kind of scumminess is what makes me resistant to the idea of going to w11 in the first place. Microsoft needs to understand that if they want to convince me to go to w11, they need to be honest and upfront and stop it with the scummy tactics. Sure, do _one_ popup, make the decline button easy to see and never do it again, maybe put a link in Windows update or something for the day I do decide to do it finally on my own terms, and on my own time. Then maybe I'll think about it when I have free time and after I've been able to back up my data, get my drives ready etc. But trying to just dump it on me using tricky methods makes me back up and go "hmm why do they want me to do this so bad?" like... are they trying to push more spyware on me? Do they want my telemetry that bad that they want me to install TODAY? If that's the case, then that's a big "NO THANKS".

The solution to this nonsense is as obvious as Microsoft's abuse of their market dominance. Either get used to using a different operating system (such as Mac OS or Linux) that'll let you use it on your terms because it's your PC, or get used to the idea that the computer you use is not your property and does not have to do what you want.

MS did the same thing with Windows 10. First they make it sound like it's something you want. Then they try to confuse users into "upgrading." Then they'll actively force an upgrade.

If they had not reduced the UI, cutting functionality, I wouldn't be so offended by the idea of a forced "upgrade".

I love how they let users stay on Windows 10 and get updates until 2025 but then try and force people to Windows 11 anyways for no reason.

Looks like Microsoft didn't learn its lesson from the forced Windows 10 upgrades that they got sued for tsk tsk tsk

I'm coming from a FOSS software and os environment, and here I see that Microsoft is using such rubbish and cheap tactics. These tactics don't fly in FOSS.

My oldest computer is 15 years old and runs just fine on Linux PoP OS.
My 2-in-one laptop has an Intel Petium Atom single core 1.6 Ghz cpu and trundells along happily with a Linux MX OS.
My newest daily driver is 9 years old and works fine with a Pepermint 10 Linux OS.
Yes I did need to learn a bit about Linux but it wasn't difficult even though I'm 66.

Great heads up Brian. We must be more aware and scrutinize these messages. I can see how easy it would be to accidentally update to 11. Thank you Sir - Great Vid as always !
