The 5080 should beat the 4090 by a significant margin. The 80 class GPU should always outperform the flagship GPU from the last generation.

Great, 5080 beating the 4090, probably at the price of the 4090.

Remember when the 1080 ti released and it was a 60% performance boost over the 980 ti without a price increase over the previous generation. $699 for an '80 Ti series card.

back not to long go, a 70 class card would beat the 90 class

I would certainly hope so, especially since the 4070 was triple the performance of the 3090 according to Nvidia

I remember when a 70 class card would match the 80ti card and at a much lower price too

That Blackwell GPU with 192GB HBM3e is meant for datacenters. It'll never make it way to consumers, as that chip can't fit into a consumer GPU.

Not gonna lie, if the 5080 beats the 4090 in performance at around the same price point, I'd consider that a steal. I get that a lot of people think that the 4090 and the 40 series as a whole are over priced (and they are for the average consumer), but for professionals like myself and my wife who do a lot of CAD work, the 1 to 2k price point is actually pretty damn good. This is especially true when you consider the fact that the Quadro RTX 8000 just 5 years ago cost 5 thousand dollars each. And now that same Quadro could only dream of performing as well as a 4090 in rendering.

Regarding potential power usage, I wonder why I don’t hear more people talking about just lowering the target power limits and clock speeds to get a GPU that’s just more power efficient overall. Power usage and performance don’t scale linearly

I mean, back in the day the 70 series would beat the prior generation's flagship, but those days are long gone...

I still don't think I will need to upgrade from 3080, can't imagine the outrageous price I will have to pay for 5080 maybe ($1000+). 100% not worth if thats the case

Even though Nvidia has designed an oversized GPU for an overestimated competition, they would certainly cut it down when putting it on retail, if no competition is coming.

Watch it beating the 4090 only by 20% in normal gaming (Rasterization) with Double the price in the middle of an AI boom and crypto comeback.

i don't think its any impressive that the newer xx80 challenges the previous xx90, I mean thats how it should be done for every generation right?

The 5080 beats the 4090.
Me worrying about how flammable it’s going to be since they’re keeping the 12+4 pin.

The 5000 series Nvidia cards are also rumoured, via the same sources that hinted at the performance increase, to get a sizable price bump. It could be around 25 percent. Meanwhile, although there are no high end AMD cards with RDNA4, at least it will be affordable for most gamers and are expected to get a huge ray tracing performance boost.

So who's ready to throw down at least $3k or more for a 50 series GPU?

if amd isn't releasing a competitive gpu to the 5080, there is no way nvidia releases a 5090, they'll just move the whole lineup up the price lader, with the 5080 matching the 4090 in price (or higher if it significantly out performs it)

The xx90s were always only supposed to be just a little better than the xx80s. The massive gap we saw between the 4080 and the 4090 is a new and disturbing phenomenon.
