Taiwan: China wants to control everything, idea of unifying with China more unpopular than ever

For decades, Taiwanese people have been used to dealing with china's threats but amid the ongoing tensions, distrust with Beijing has heightened. VOA's Bill Gallo brings you this report from Taipei.

The Taiwanese need to realize that "Keeping things the way they are" is not what the CCP wants at all. Sooner or later they'll be forced to make a choice. Reunify with China, or resist forcefully.

The 2019 Hong Kong protests actually began because of China's policies towards Taiwan. The (Chinese puppet) government of Hong Kong didn't have an agreement with Taiwan to extradite criminals, because that would be treating Taiwan as if it were a separate foreign country. So when a Hong Kong person vacationed in Taiwan with his girlfriend and killed her there, the Hong Kong puppet government wasn't able to extradite him back to Taiwan to be tried for murder. To continue avoiding having to acknowledge Taiwan's government, the Hong Kong (Chinese puppet) legislature had to include mainland China in the law they passed to enable extradition to Taiwan (so as to not acknowledge that Taiwan is a separate country from China). The people of Hong Kong got upset because they don't ever want to be extradited to mainland China, and they started protesting the continued erosion of Hong Kong's semi-autonomy

China invading Taiwan would be a huge disaster for China. They know this, or they would have done it a long time ago.
Even just militarily, it would be a slaughter. An amphibious assault on an island brimming with missiles is just a shooting gallery. But even then, China is completely depended on imports for both food and industrial inputs, and it lacks the blue water navy to protect its supply chains. Any country from Japan, South Korea, Australia, Malaysia, even India, could deindustrialize China and cause mass famine within a year.
The only reason China got so rich in the first place is that the US protected free trade between nations with its navy. And now China doesn't even have the cheap manufacturing so everyone is re-shoring their factories elsewhere very rapidly. "If the US wants to destroy China, all it has to do is go home." - Peter Zeihan.
