John T. Hamm, M.D., Medical Director of the Norton Cancer Institute Research Program, answers the question, what are the chances of getting lung cancer if I quit smoking?

If you're a smoker the best thing you do is stop smoking.

Your risk getting lung cancer doesn't go down right away but over the next 10 years your risk falls.

It never gets back to the normal population but every day you don't smoke is one day less chance you're going to get lung cancer so, if you're smoking you need to stop and your risk will go down over time.

I recently smoked tea. For a day I smoked one joint. I did it for 4 days. But I stopped now, and this helped me a lot.

It's kind of sad that I'm just now thinking about quitting smoking. I don't want to completely accept lung cancer as an option. I have to settle for reduced, so I will die due to health complications. Caused by my addiction, and previous addiction.
