I grew up in Corpus Christi, fishing shallow and surf and using traditional surf and light rods for shallows. I now live in Oregon and fish rivers with Steelhead graphite rods and love them, so I bring them down to the Padre Island and people look at me like I'm weird, but the action and casting is awesome. I will never use a "surf rod" or light rod again.

Well I am 63 and I have rods that have lasted over 20yrs. I keep some rods horizontal in rod racks. Others I keep in insulated rod cases. All rods are kept in my garage. I live in Chicago. I have never had any problems with my rods. My garage is not temperature controlled. I do wax my rods and oil my reels twice a year. I have 30 rods. I don't drive a truck so when I go out I transport my rods in rod cases. I fish from Illinois to all coasts. NO BOAT LOL.

the heat and humidity in florida will delaminate your epoxy on a rod if you dont keep your stuff in the ac and 1 other thing when not using your stuff keep the drags loose not hammered down crushing your washers

If you take care of your gear it takes care of you. I clean them every trip with a mist bottle and rag.and i treat my cork ones and they look brand new years later

I cringe watching YouTube fishing videos with half a dozen expensive rod laying in the bottom of the boat and they're getting banged around and stepped on. Must be nice to have so much money you can just chuck a few $500 rods in the boat. If I had a $70k boat I'd definitely have a rod storage system.
