This video will teach you how to tie maybe the strongest fishing knot, the Uni Knot! This knot can be used any time you need a fast and strong knot, and this video will show you the tricks to tie it quickly and effectively. We will also go over one of the coolest aspects of this knot, which is once you learn it you're already halfway to knowing how to tie your leader line onto your main line (or any other two pieces of line together)! This is one of the most widely used fishing knots which is easy/fast to tie and can be used to catch anything from trout, perch, bass, pike, salmon, red snapper, tuna, trigger fish, mackerel... basically anything you catch with a hook can be caught using this knot! This knot is similar in strength and simplicity to the palomar knot, trilene knot, improved clinch knot, loop knot, albright knot, fg knot, and others! Subscribe for more knots and tips, and thanks for watching!

Quick disclaimer: This is but one of many methods to successfully tie this knot, and it happens to be the best one I have found! I hope it works equally well for you, but if it doesn't, or if you have found something else that works better, I encourage you to stick to what works for you! I would always recommend practicing the knots and testing their strength yourself to ensure you are comfortable with how they work, and to avoid flinging lures into the ocean on a failed knot (ask me how I know!). Knots take practice, so make sure you're comfortable with whatever you're tying prior to trusting it with your gear! If you have any questions about the knot, please post them below and I will do my best to answer them. I hope this is helpful, and tight lines!

My dad bless his heart passed away, but as a kid going fishing he showed me how to tie the knots. And he showed me how to tie the boat up using all kind of knots. I miss him.

I learned this knot almost 50 years ago, and it's the only one I have used since. This knot will hold so well, you can trim the tag end right up against the knot, and it won't unravel.

My dad passed away on March 11th 2024 after a sudden cardiac arrest. I'm his only daughter and just turned 19, we used to go fishing every year on my birthday and I really miss it. There are a lot of skills of his that I didn't get to learn, tying a fishing hook is one of them.
Thank you for this video, now I'll be able to keep me and my dad's fishing tradition alive hopefully 😊🙏🏽

Thank You. My father taught me fishing knots at a young age and I am just getting back into the fishing scene. This is one knot he never taught me and I cant wait to give it a try.

I learned knots in Ranger School in 88, and I still use several of them. We "dress down" the knot to tighten it, by pulling each part out a little, alternating as you hold the knot. I think you could have less risk of straining your line or your tendons if you used your fingers to slide the wraps into place instead of pure tension. I like your knot, and the wetting is a new trick to me, so thank you.

I use this knot for most connections. Vic Dunaways book taught me many ways to employ it, and along with about 2 others, I have never found a situation that wasn't able to be resolved. Thank you Mr.Dunaway

I got tired of loosing expensive lures and big fish using the Palomar so I started using the uni. Best knot ever! I haven't broke off once since. Plus I can tie it in the dark/blind.

I have been using this knot since 1992 for slip bobber stops. I have never used it for terminal tackle knots. Thank you!

I must admit, I have viewed several versions on how to tie this knot. However this is the most straightforward and well explained video I have viewed.
Thank you for sharing this.. 👍

Thanks! That knot was amazing and I already got 3 pikes and the knot seems to be really strong. My dad has always done my knots but now at the age of 20 it was time to learn to do these by myself, so thanks a lot!

Wow. Just tried this out today, I'll never go back to the clinch. This was SO much easier and feels far more reliable. Clinch always comes undone for me on my test pulls, maddening. Thank you for the knowledge!

In the UK this is called the grinner knot. It preserves line strength better than just about any other knot.
