Hey guys! There’s a few ways you can spool BRAIDED line on a baitcaster. You can tie it through the holes on the spool or use electrical tape. In this case I used backing in this video since I didn’t have a full spool of braid. I hope this helps!!

I've never added backing before and my line never slips.

I like how you matched the line to the reel color

Use backing for solid spools….that’s why they started making spools with holes so you can tie your braid straight to the spool so it won’t slip. 👍

Don’t need backing if your spool on your reel has holes just feed the braid thru one or 2 holes will never slip

Braided line can also be tied through holes or if you wrap it around twice over a layer of masking tape it’ll also stay put. Key is giving the braid something to hold to. Also you have to spool at about your max drag you plan on using or 1/2-3/4 line strength or you’ll get braid bite

My preferred method to prevent line slipping is adding a small piece of electrical tape over where I tied my line onto the spool

Where did you get that reel? It looks awesome

if your spool has holes in it tie it thru one of two of them. the line will now actually have something to grab onto thus making the line tighter on the spool and stop slippage. it’s simple physics.

We use this exact technique in tackle shops, try fly line backing instead of mono, mono definitely works but fly line backing is a bit cheaper and really bites into the spool. Plus it last a long time as opposed to mono

If you have a small size spool, or don’t want to do a mono backing, or just want to maximize your spool capacity.

Use electrical tape! Just do your normal line to spool knot then add a short or decent length of electrical tape over your knot and make the tape flush to your spool and line; and then spool your reel up.

Works for me and I have not slipped or had any issues 🎣

Braid should always be put on wet and under much more pressure than your fingers can provide. If you put it on loose the first time you catch something decent the line will cut into the line below and bind. Putting on wet via a wet towel removes all the waxes and excess die from manufacturing.

I don't use backing just a Arbor knot never had a slip while using braid

Most of our saltwater rods have thick braid as the backing followed by a top shot of mono. I don’t know much about freshwater fishing but I’m pretty sure you’re fine with just braid.

We’re did you get the rod and reel I’ve seen it everywhere and want one for myself because I love the way it looks and have heard really good things about it

Yeah, if you just tie to the spool its gonna slip, thats why there are holes in your spool. Ive been running bait casters with braid for six years now without any slip at all and that's because i learned real fast to tie into the holes.

Personally I put electrical tape on the spool and then arbor knot my braid to the spool, if a fish runs you out and you’ve got a leader to main line to backing you’ve got too many potential break points

You don't need that much backing, only needs to wrap the spool 5 ish times

I’ve been a fishing guide for 10 years and I can tell you that If your braid is slipping on a modern bait caster, you’re spooling it on improperly OR you’re reeling in when the line is too slack. BUT also cheap braid can lead to this type of problem as well.

Use electrical tape for backing and you won’t have to worry about a weak knot. And use a fg knot way more stronger and closer to the diameter of the main line
