Here is a partner stretch option for the glutes and piriformis muscle that can helps relieve posterior hip pain, back pain and sciatica-like pain that originates from the muscles of the pelvic region.

This position that is used often by clinicians and is quite effective in terms of stretching the muscles in the glute region and relieving certain types of hip and low back pain/tightness.

This particular stretch is thought to stretch the glutes and deep hip rotators, including gluteus medius, gluteus minimus, piriformis muscle and some of the other deep rotators that can be associated with the development of sciatica.

The stretch should not be felt in the back, so stop if your partner feels back pain or their pelvis begins to lift off of the ground. The movement should only occur at the hip joint.

Whenever I do this stretch i have very sharp pain in my inner upper thigh(I think adductor?) Region

Glute medius is hard to get at. A pigeon pose is almost 100% glute Maximus.

Laying on your side might work but odds are you’ll have popped your femur out and you’ll only be getting at the glute Maximus.
