A common belief is that abs get hit with compound exercises like squats and deadlifts so you do not need isolate them.
While this is true, your biceps get hit with compound exercises like pull-ups and rows. Your triceps get hit with compound exercises like bench press and shoulder press. You rarely hear anyone skipping arms though.
Simply put, if you want abs, you should train abs just like you’d train biceps if you want biceps. While you do need to be lean enough for your abs to be visible, if you want your abs to be prominent and impressive when you are lean enough for them to be visible, you should train them like you would any other muscle group.
