They are so used to see unrealistic beauty standards on social media too

It used to be “life is downhill after 30” now it’s “life is over at 25”…. 😅 I BLAME LEONARDO DICAPRIO

It is scary. My 9 year old cousin was complaining to my sister that her smile lines were wrinkles and that she needed a wrinkle cream for them. Worrying to say the least.

To be fair if they think that YOU look old, there's no hope for the rest of us

I will be forever grateful that I grew up without social media

Those babies look like babies in real life. On the internet they tend to look older. I live a mile from a university and literally across the street from a high school. They look like kids, they can't drive for my dear life, but they look like kids.

I think a lot of it has to do with the style of hair and makeup. A lot of them are emulating celebrities who are older than them and so they end up looking older. Also I am 44, and I've just now started incorporating retinol and things like that, because my skin just started aging past what typical moisturizer and SPF can prevent. I fundamentally agree that younger people are using products they really don't need.

They just need a steady regimen that will help keep their skin clean moisturized and protected.

I also think it's because they have the resources to learn how to apply makeup the way adults do - and better products becoming more accessible. When I was in middle school every girl who wore makeup looked very much like a middle schooler who bought the cheapest drugstore makeup and didn't know how to set it or prevent foundation from oxidizing, much less how to contour/highlight/use color theory. Kids today could have watched MUAs their whole lives!

Where I live I’ve noticed a trend with women in their late 20’s and early 30’s with a lot of lip filler and squared tattooed brows by the local salon in our town, which isn’t leaving a ‘fresh’ or natural/youthful look. As a 40 year old I just want to beg them to guard their precious skin !! 💛

This is SOOO true, i’ve seen so many like 13-16 yr olds saying 20 is old !!!! I’m 23!! Ik im not old. And i have a cousin that is 14 and since she was 11 she was just throwing a bunch of random skincare on her face and her skin looks a mess now :( i’m tryin to help her but she won’t listen, she also cakes in mascara and has no lashes !

I would love to hear your take on adolescents and skin care (ie: when to start, what to start with *products or routines*) for boys and girls (especially during puberty)

Honestly I believe we have full power to our mindset. I just don’t pay attention to social media and when I’m on YouTube I just watch content I love . I don’t think about how other people look. I used to before and it was detrimental to my mental health. I also started to workout and take care of myself. I can’t wait to see how I look when I’m older. But I stopped paying attention to what society wants

Hearing about this stuff makes me so glad I've never been into social media bro I feel like I'm looking down from somewhere just watching the world go crazy 😂😂

They also get a lot of filler and botox at a very very young age and pretty much look like 43 year old women. They age themselves 20 years.

Completely agree with you, alot of my young patients with chronic inflammation and signs of aging are the ones that started 9 step skin care regimens with retinol and excessive use of AHA and BHAs on very immature skin!

I’m 13 currently and I have really bad rosacea that I’ve had since I was eight that is the only reason I had a set skin care routine at a young age I went to dermatologist I got help for it, and I got a skin care routine that works for me with my really dry rosacea skin but the normal eight-year-oldreally realistically if they really want to use skin care only needs a moisturizer, a cleanser and a sunscreen

Gen Z is not "ageing like spoilt milk"...like Millenials had tanning bed culture at our age! There's just no way we are ageing more poorly...like from what? Yeah stress can harm skin but not as much as the sun and smoking.
A lot of us are genuinely taking healthy skin habits to heart, understanding we need to wear sunscreen, avoiding harsh chemicals, and actually getting professional help for our skin conditions lol
And vaping doesn't create the same harsh oxidants for the skin even though it's still bad for the lungs.

It's literally just more social marketing to make naive young people terrified and buy a bunch of stuff they don't need. Advertisers know Gen Z is susceptible to campaigning more so than other gens, so they pay online "journalists" to write BS like this and often put affiliate links with it.

As someone in middle school I love researching skincare and learning about it but I only use the cerave moisturizer at night or after I shower since my skin is so dry lol

Translation of gen z language : aging starts when you don't look 18. Once start looking like an adult who have lived for a bit your old. This is coming from a gen z
