Although it was a dangerous storm, it was less severe than the Category 5 hurricane that had initially threatened the state. The coastal surge was surprisingly lighter than predicted. The storms shape seemed to distort dramatically just before landfall and all the energy moved up the east coast with those tornados. Weird storm.

Yes this is incredibly sad but dont forget NC and TN. Compared to what they are dealing with this doesnt really compare. When you choose to live in FL you know this is always a possibility. There is always risk involved living in tropical climates. You have time to prepare. The people in NC and TN had no time and ability to prepare for such a disaster. The mountains funneled all that water down and they were helpless
