My brother’s fiancé is finishing school in FL. Picked her up from the airport at midnight. I pray for everyone that can’t get out.

The way some of the most professional meteorologists are getting emotional when describing this storm is very telling. They can see in the models the untold lives and destruction this will bring. It's the burden of knowledge.

I’m originally from the Philippines and now live in the US. When it comes to storms, storm surge is often the deadliest threat. A Category 5 hurricane making landfall during the day may allow for some response, reducing the death toll. But a Category 3 hurricane hitting at night can be devastating—rescue efforts become nearly impossible, floodwaters rise unseen, and live wires turn streets into deadly traps.

Now, imagine a Category 5 hurricane striking in the dark. The storm surge comes like a hidden monster, swallowing homes and neighborhoods. The howling winds drown out cries for help, and floodwaters surge without warning. Entire communities could be lost before anyone realizes the danger.

Even the US, with its advanced disaster preparedness, would struggle against such a force. I remember Typhoon Haiyan, the most powerful storm to hit my home country, which struck during the day and caused unimaginable destruction. A Category 5 storm at night would be apocalyptic, overwhelming even the strongest nations.

Excellent journalist on the ground, calling out the facts that some do not want to hear.

Excellent simulation. It should be shown everywhere. Words are not as impactful as visuals. That flying debris bit is terrifying.

10 foot storm surge... "unsurviveable hurricane" We need better reporting if that was a prediction it was no where near that level.

Maybe if the storms keep getting worst and knocking down millions of dollars worth of recent construction, they will stop building and leave Florida for good.

I really don't understand why these homes close to the coast are plywood and sheerock built. Why don't they use concrete for homes in FL? I mean, I don't get it... Same in OK... Tons of tornadoes yet weak home construction...

Water surge will be 4 meters that means youre not safe in the second floor. Thats a huge problem! While people have dodged the bullet by staying upfloor during Helene they cannot dodge it with Milton
