Sadly, these were once marshes and swamps that were designed to absorb the impact of a hurricane. I understand wanting to live by the coast, but perhaps it’s time to reassess the risks. I think it would be wise to allow some places to restore their marshes and move homes inland. You could do this while preserving some beaches and towns, if done properly.

Every time one of these storms comes in it's so sad to see the Loss of property and life. In some places this happens every two years. I live 12 hours from here and it's still affects me. Sending my prayers out to everyone who has lost their property or loved ones ❤️

I have been going to Cedar Key since 1990 and it is so unfortunately that they have got hit several times my thoughts and prayers go out to everybody that's affected by the hurricane

In this day and age hurricanes happen every year and we have the resources and technology to build homes to withstand storm surges and hurricane force winds as evidenced by this video. Some of those houses looked unscathed while others were reduced to rubble. I understand if there are older houses around it would be hard to retrofit them, but when the people re-build they should raise them up and use materials strong enough to withstand a minimum Cat4 hurricane. Especially the houses crammed right there on the water.
