I’ve been at Shibuya station for several times, and it always get me a teary eyes, when every time, I see the statue. It’s sad, and somehow beautiful story, at the same time.

Some other sad notes to consider: 1) The professor never knew Hachi had waited for him for 9 years, 2) the real life Hachi was treated badly after the professor's death as they regarded him as a stray nuisance and didn't realize that he was waiting for his deceased master, 3) kids drew moustaches on his face-since Hachi was docile he just took it, 4) It was nearly 7 years after the professor's death that someone (Hirokichi Saito) saw Hachi waiting at Shibuya, made the connection that he was waiting for his master, then published the story in the Asahi Shimbun, and 5) Hachi died never knowing why his beloved Professor Euno never returned to him.

I am glad that the square at Shibuya is named after the dog! So heartwarming!

I think Hachi stands for everyone who knows what loyalty, unconditional love, devastating loss, and deep grief feel like.

This story was honestly unbelievable. The fact that it was a true story was just amazing. The story of Hachi broke me, it really makes you appreciate the beauty of animals’ nature and the endless loyalty and love that they possess. Loyalty is rare and it should be valued wherever you find it and whoever you find it in. To say the least.

I never knew this history of Hachiko, even though I always meet with my friends in front of him. It's so nice to hear that Hachiko is buried right next to his master.

My dad and I rescued an Akita off the streets. They bring a different perspective of having a best friend in your life. They are the most loyal and hilarious breed. I think about my 2 big boys all the time,

I love the 2015 statue of both Hachiko and his owner. It's like the sculptor decided to commemorate that one thing Hachiko was looking for for 9 years: to reunite with his owner.
ok and now I'm crying.

This is such a moving story. I watched the movie today with Richard Greer and I cried. That was such a deep love he had for his master. After I watched the movie I then looked it up on you tube and came across your story.

Having grown up around dogs I will never not be touched by the Loyalty of a dog, Hachiko truly the goodest boy of them all. Yet like all dog stories it hits me deep and makes me wanna cry.

I was in Tokyo, Japan, for a year in 2014-2015. I had a chance to "meet" him, both the statue in Shibuya and at the museum. I was also lucky enough I had one to show me the Hachiko and Professor Ueno reunite statue before I went back home in March 2015.
I remember back before the American movie was released, I came across a music video of Hahchiko, using from Hachiko Monogatari. Didn't take too long so I could find the movie and watch it. Then got to watch Hachiko a Dog's Tale when it hit theaters in Sweden. Such a hero of mine.
