My husband recently retired past age 65. He followed the advice to stop contributing to his HSA 6 months prior to retiring. However, SSA made his Part A effective date at 6 months prior to his application date, which was earlier than his retirement date. An in-person rep at the local SSA office told him they always make it 6 months prior to application date and there is nothing he can do to make it later.
