Are you feeling behind in life?

It's easy to feel behind when we compare ourselves to our peers.

Some people around us seem like they have it all.

I've found that these people also have their own struggles. It's easy to see their wins, but it's harder to see their struggles.

The successful businessman you see might have a suffering marriage and be struggling to make payroll.

The "perfect" married couple you see might be struggling with work/life balance.

Another one - that "super fit" person you see might suffer a heart attack next week and take months to recover.

None of this is supposed to wish bad things on our peers and friends.

I'm a strong believer that other people winning doesn't mean you're losing.

However, I think we can reflect on this when we feel behind. We can take a deep breath and realize we're all at different places in different journeys. We might not actually be behind at all.

Your next fitness routine can be the one that gives you what you want.

Your next "yes" at a job interview could be the catalyst for your new career.

Your next date could be with your soul mate.

Focusing on others and panicking might distract us from doing what we need to do.

The anxiety of comparison can lead us astray when we're already on the right path.

Just some thoughts!

Was literally just pacing around my house thinking about how I'm behind in life, then this pops up. Thanks Hampton.

I’m 26 and I feel like I wasted most of my time so far, especially my early 20s which according to everyone was suppose to be the best time of our lives. I had a terrible depression during college and as a result I barely did anything notable. Now I’m trying to think that is not too late and I can still enjoy my young years no matter how old I get, is hard to be positive about it, but I try everyday. Thanks for the video

Being 29 and feeling like I only have one more year to do fun youthful things without being judged by others, has been a dread lately. With COVID basically wasting two of my 20s youthful years, I feel like I haven’t been able to enjoy my most of my youth.

I always wanted to eventually have a GF/wife and kids by the age of 30. I’m no where near that either. So I always felt behind.

So I felt like doing young things, but I’m getting older. I want to have a family and settle, but I feel like I’m behind. Such a frustrating conundrum.

I really needed this video. Thanks!

Literally all my friends who are married and have kids rushed into it and are miserable and have financial issues like most who rush into it. So glad I work smart and am taking my sweet time and truly dgaf about what anyone else is doing.

I feel completely behind. I am almost 40 and i still live with my mom in her house and i never had a girlfriend but i can do a bunch of push ups thanks to your "You can do push ups" video. I studied computer science but i had no clue finding a job in the IT world would be so difficult, everyone wants someone with years of experience (which i can somewhat understand) which i can't acquire because nobody chooses me which keeps me in this vicious cycle. I have no future prospects other than getting lucky someday and a company giving me a chance.

"When you're feeling gloomy
'cause people put you down,
Just be yourself, don't give an inch
Erase that little frown
They may have took me many things, but I'm still moving on
Be faithful of what is to come, and please keep living on"

Of all the pieces of advice you’ve mentioned, as helpful as they are, I think this one definitely hit home most. As a college student who’s stuck not knowing what he wants to pursue in life, seeing all my friends seemingly blow through internships after internships and receiving their degrees early really stacks that pressure on me. So this piece of advice really does really help wonders for me

Definitely guilty of doing this all the time. It got to the point where I stopped being on social media, because all my peers are getting married and having kids posting about it whilst I'm stuck at university, still just waiting for the day I can at least get a job and start building something for myself. I'm in my early twenties, but I can feel it's as if life is passing me by sometimes, especially as I haven't really been in a long-term relationship. Sure, to some people early twenties is still super young, but when you're surrounded by people who've been in serious relationships and are taking it to the next level, it can feel as if I'm some sort of an abomination. I can totally see it how years pass by, things are still the same, but as I get older, people's reaction to me not being in a relationship change from "you're young what are you talking about, you'll find someone" to the well-meaning but ultimately implicitly pitying "its ok, relationships aren't for everyone". Anyway, I don't know why I shared all of that but point is, if anyone else is feeling the same way, you're not alone.

Dudes at 42 it feels like I am totally starting over. Divorce, rehab, mortgage, no one is behind. Focus on yourself and when you can help someone up do it. Starting over isn’t too bad. Took a year to say that. Good luck.

Thank you! I really appreciated this, its something thats been on my mind a lot recently. Its easy to think that its kind of normal due to the stage of life Im in, but still. Its nice to hear it from others, as extra certainty. Please, have a wonderful day, everyone! We can only ask for our best try, so as long as we want better, thats good enough of a reason to keep trying.
