The secret behind the death star is that Palpatine was hoping to build a giant metal ball that might just barely be able to compete with the pair Thrawn drags around.
Not that he'd ever stand a chance of that of course.

One of my favorite things about Thrawn is just how blunt he is when he speaks. He's intelligent and constantly thinking ahead yes, but he often wastes zero time getting straight to the point when he's curious. That obviously bit him in the ass back in the Ascendancy and he managed to catch the all-knowing Emperor off guard (that small company right there), but he sticks with it lol.

One thing that wasn't mentioned here is that Thrawn's aid/translator, Eli Vanto, played a huge part in Thrawn finding out about the DS project. Eli was exeptionally talented with numbers as shown by his initial career choice as a supply officer, which Thrawn completely changed, which was probably the best thing to happen in Eli's career.

In TROS the emperor used Trawns idea though was foolish by announcing his return BEFORE the fleet was deployed.


The rebellion was lucky that Thrawn was not the one making executive decisions .
