I bought this Bowie single as a 13 year old, then took on a paper round to raise the funds to buy the Hunky Dory album. My draconian stepfather hated me playing 'pop music' on his hi-fi, which was reserved for classical music but he did have a grudging respect for this masterpiece.

One of Bowie's best songs. I'm surprised it hasn't been covered extensively but that's probably because it is so complex. Wakeman lays down absolutely perfect piano tracks. The solo is great. Just a great song altogether.

I feel like this song speaks to modern escapism very well. As the girl wants to watch a good movie to get away, but she can’t get into it, the news is depressing, politics are complex and ever changing, and nothing feels free and new. Yet, we still seek something better than what we have. I could talk about all of the niches I’ve found in this masterpiece for hours. Glad to see everyone here, enjoying it with each other. Maybe one day we’ll find that life on Mars.

This song is for anyone who's ever left home in search of something "better".

The only thing that sucks about this song is that it ends.

So incredibly hard to pick a favourite Bowie track, but I keep coming back to this one so I think it’s the one for me. Unparalleled.

Help me. I can't stop listening to this song. I've listened to it at least 20 times today.

When it comes to lyrics Bowie is unsurpassed, I have no doubt that he will still be studied many 100s of years hence

Love the fact that this song is getting renewed exposure in the terrific new film LICORICE PIZZA.

Pretty hard to not make a great song when Bowie, Ronson and Wakeman converge. Wonderful. Brings goosebumps every time I hear it.

Great song by Bowie 🌟 Even better TV series starring John Simm and Philip Glenister 🚨

So original and poetic Song about solitude and isolation through the metaphor of the space and the Aliens. Genius

Sounds beautiful, thanks for this and for "The Rise And Fall" remaster, I hope you remaster "Hunky Dory" too

Thanks for this! One thing I never liked about the original mix was how much the vocals are drowned out by the music in the chorus. I had to switch to the 2003 mix from the Nothing Has Changed box set, since it greatly fixes the issue.

It's a God-awful small affair
To the girl with the mousy hair
But her mummy is yelling, "No"
And her daddy has told her to go
But her friend is nowhere to be seen
Now she walks through her sunken dream
To the seat with the clearest view
And she's hooked to the silver screen
But the film is a saddening bore
For she's lived it ten times or more
She could spit in the eyes of fools
As they ask her to focus on
Sailors fighting in the dance hall
Oh man, look at those cavemen go
It's the freakiest show
Take a look at the lawman
Beating up the wrong guy
Oh man, wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show
Is there life on Mars?
It's on America's tortured brow
That Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow
Now the workers have struck for fame
'Cause Lennon's on sale again
See the mice in their million hordes
From Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads
Rule Britannia is out of bounds
To my mother, my dog, and clowns
But the film is a saddening bore
'Cause I wrote it ten times or more
It's about to be writ again
As I ask you to focus on
Sailors fighting in the dance hall
Oh man, look at those cavemen go
It's the freakiest show
Take a look at the lawman
Beating up the wrong guy
Oh man, wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show
Is there life on Mars?

O "Ziggy Stardust" o meu álbum favorito de David Bowie, e o "Hunky Dory" é o segundo. "Life On Mars" é uma obra prima.
