Not many can cover Bowie. He's looking down on this one and smiling.

3:43 the look on the drummer's face at her trumpet noises: "Nice... nice."

This is one of the best covers of Life on Mars I ever heard. The genre is not important when you can send the message the original intended to convey. The air of uneasy strangeness with a tint of sadness was kept intact.

I listened to this on spotify before this dropped and I did NOT realize that she was doing the muted trumpet sounds with her MOUTH. I just assumed there were two trumpets...

I played mouth trumpet after I first heard miles Davis when I wad 10. Drove my parents crazy, I could alternate each side with the ability to half step at will, drove my parents and siblings crazy. By high school I was really good and knew all of the Chicago tunes, drove my teachers crazy, , they would not let me audition for the band and it ruined my life until I took up the bag pipes, drove my wife crazy.

I wonder if they would ever try to turn classical music into jazz... would that count as an updating rather than a backdating?

It's funny because Life On Mars was David Bowie's reaction to Frank Sinatra, who is obviously a big contender to this genre.
