Asus ROG Swift OLED PG42UQ Review - Just Get It.

Asus makes really good monitors and this... is probably the best 42" OLED monitor right now. It might have the same panel as the LG C2 but boy oh boy, don't ever mistake it to be the same. While each change may be small, add that all up and it makes quite a big difference.

If you're even thinking of getting one. Don't wait any longer, just get it.

Excellent review, this monitor is a great option for people that want to get an OLED panel but don't want the ultrawide offered by Alienware's AW3423DW QD-OLED monitor.

Just get the C2...can be had for less, more picture control and control in general, richer colors thanks to the gloss panel*.
I turned ASBL off so no more stoopid static dimming and great burn in prevention.
*I used to fear gloss panels BUT ever since my CX I embraced the clarity and richness of OLED...I think this will be a big discussion but gloss panels are amazing if you set your lighting right...matte is no better and the diffused effect if horrible imo and kills the vibrancy.

I've had this monitor for a month. There is absolutely no way I can go back to anything smaller than 42" now. Also once you get OLED, nothing else compares.

Something not all of you know, I use my c2 and the reflection on my rgb keyboard shows on the screen, which ruins the experience a lot. So matte coating is good for pc gaming up close..

Its beautiful display with so many issues, shouldn't be sold to the public, as the monitor is not ready yet, Asus hasn't finished the job. I have to send it back after one week of use, the panel develop horizontal lines and a cross visible on grey background. Most people are complaining, costs too much money with too many issues. Will definitely wait for the next release, I hope to be better.

One important feature/drawback you forgot to mention is the anti-glare coating on screen, which dims the colours and some people might not like that on OLED.

it's a shame I really like the Rog swift but in the county that I live LG C2 is half of the price of the asus so is hard to justify the price increase

In my country ASUS PG42 cost 1800 euro, while LG C2 OLED is around 1000 euro and sometimes cheaper due to some promotions! For me 800 euro difference does not justify the ASUS monitor!

Why do you think larger QD-OLED are not yet coming out? It’s a perfect solution but 34” is not cutting it for me. Already on 38” and now strongly considering this Asus.

I'm really surprised you didn't mention the matt coating at all. I prefer glossy and that's the only reason I didn't buy this.

This is also 109ppi which is 1440p at 27".

I really wanted to like the AW3423DW but the text clarity is so bad it's downright fuzzy, I'm returning it and probably getting something like the PG42UQ.

I just recently got the Asus xg43uq 43" 2021 version for $400 believe it or not from a friend who made a impulse buy.
and i LOVE IT SO FAR with HDR1000 and colors so i can only imagine oled.

I just recently seen a OLED panel in person this week and wow! the colors are amazing. maybe down the line I'll end up getting a OLED display.

Nice review. I am not a controller guy. Productivity by day... gamer at night. Your suggest distance from monitor? I am at 30" with my 25. Thinking a 27 or 32 4k would be better. Thoughts? Thanks. Ps. Just got my 4090 in 13900. :)

Praying that they make a 32 inch version, so it can fit on my desk

Would love to go this route, but given that CXs were Bruning in after a year of heavy use, it's still not workable for someone who needs a work from home/ gaming monitor.

May have to hope that Samsung is able to make it's micro led work for monitors since it doesn't seem like OLED will ever defeat burn-in.

And I have to say owning an LG G1 and CX, I hate ABL solutions. They are all bad and noticeably distracting. And you basically need to void your warranty to disable it. Dark scenes often get too dark, only to get a noticeable brightness bump when a little light hits the screen. Only a problem in HDR I guess...

I tried to get one - but it arrived cracked, dented, and broken. And it couldnt be replaced from no in stock replacements. And returning it is a pain in the neck.

having mine for a month now, i love it so much, although the latest firmware seems to dim HDR a little bit, i hope they get it all sort out soon.

Great review, subbed! :-)

What size does the stand have? I want to get a wooden monitor stand to raise the monitor slightly off the table. Thanks 🙏

Question, what happens when you set your display resolution to 3840x1600 UWQHD? The C2 has a feature that lets you set it to that Res and in essence you have a 38 inch ultra wide almost 4k monitor with black bars on top and bottom. If that the same with this one, up to what refresh can you set it to that way? Thank you
