ROG PG42UQ OLED Monitor First Impressions!

The ASUS ROG PG42UQ OLED monitor packs some great specs and is visually one of the best looking monitors I've used to date...but that doesn't come without some trade outs. I'll have my review up in the coming weeks but I've already noticed some things that I would want others to be aware of before buying this monitor. If you have any questions or specifics you would want me to cover in the review let me know in the comment section.

*The low hum happened again for a third time and I noticed this seems to happen when I play on a console for a while and then switch over to the PC and wake it from sleep. I'm wondering if there's just something happening internally that is freezing up the speakers.

Finally, a channel that shows products instead of a closeup of someone's face. I always wanted a 'no face' tag search like the 'no commentary' one for games. Thank you. Subscribed and liked 👍

Have had this monitor for nearly two months now and the latest firmware fixed a few issues. I still find the HDR crushing detail and just overall too dark. I’ve been gaming on standard mode and I find the colors and detail really impressive. Really have enjoyed my experience with this monitor to this point; HDR isn’t the greatest, but it’s an OLED panel.

I am watching this on a 49" from 2.5 ft away. Using it for 2 years now. Easy to get used to after applying warmer/redder colors to the screen.

I've had this monitor for over a month and it's just amazing. Can't understand where all negative opinions coming from.
The only con is the price.
I personally live it. Colors and size are just fantastics👍👍👍👍👍👍

4K OLED is amazing and at 42" this is beast....this also has a hub and DP connection, it now £1250 too....

I'll stick to my C1. 138hz really isn't that big of a difference at 4k, especially if you're not rocking a 4090. I also was able to do a couple of work arounds in order to get the white uniformity in check. I'm really waiting on a 4k 240hz monitor at 38-42inch.. without any sort of curve nonsense. great vid

I've had this monitor for a week. Honestly, I'm really torn about returning it. It's a beautiful monitor. It is my first 4K and OLED monitor. But there are a couple of things that have been driving me crazy. Quick bright flashes. Like goal explosions in Rocket League. Are cauaing a quick flicker. Almost like it's adjusting the brightness. Tested out overwatch 2 this morning. The HDR looked great. Until you would go from looking at a bright scene to a darker one.. again when it's quick movement. The transition isn't smooth, and it flickers. I've never had HDR before so I'm not sure if it's performing as expected, and I'm just being dramatic. Noticing the smaller details as the monitor is double the size as what I previously had.

Would you mind doing a video that shows productivity workflow? For example, 3 window layout on the top and how much room is on the bottom for things like slack, email, notes/word doc. Thank you!

Screen cracks upon delivery are a real issue here. There are numerous other people who have had the same problem.

FYI: weight is about 29lbs not 44lbs without stand in case you are mounting.

All the dimming of white is for each millions of individual LED lamps long durability for the lifetime trust of the company product.
Basically OLED is for movie or games with immersive high contrast pleasures as a secondary monitor with a computer but not suitable such as static windows desktop monitor. It would make shorten life of specific area's OLED individual pixels turned on lamps.
My 18 years old 30" LG IPS monitor which is a same panel as Apple cinema display) that has an entire back-light shows still perfect colors without any burned in area.

I have the Asus mini led monitor and the HDR is insane but the haloing you get is freaking awful, imo oled is king! I just need a 32 inch version

Asus and other 4k oled monitors like KTC are using Lg panels from LG C2 TVs.

Maybe I'm just lucky, my 5 years old Alienware ultrawide oled monitor has been running perfectly. I'm just tired of watching media and having black bars are the side.

I'm going to return mine in the next few weeks if the washed out HDR experience in Windows isn't fixed. The SDR is truly amazing! But one of the big selling points is HDR and it looks absolutely terrible. I'm also experiencing ongoing issues with the monitor not waking up when overclocked to 138hz about 30% of the time. All this was supposed to be fixed in the mid November firmware patch V033 but here we are mid-December and both issues are ongoing. And Asus support are shockingly bad to deal with. Not good enough for a monitor at this price point. Such a shame that SDR is just WOW

Loved the review. In your experience, which is the best monitor for vibrant color-pop colors?
