Depressed people can also have these 'dead eyes', if they aren't masking. I did this when I felt empty with some friends. It made them SO uncomfortable. They notice something must be wrong but don't say ANYTHING but you have very short conversations.

My dad is a diagnosed sociopath, and he behaves much differently. I don’t know how to describe it. He doesn’t mask all that much. Just enough. He’s a genuinely well intentioned person, and he does a lot for other people, even if it is subconsciously for his benefit. He told me that until I was born, he didn’t think he was capable of loving anyone the way other people do, but that I’m the only person he truly loves and cares about for my benefit.

My dad is one of the greatest people I have ever known. He’s there for me with no one else is, and he’s my best friend. Having him in my life has given me a broad understanding of personality disorders, and how to separate them from the individual. I have borderline personality disorder, and if not for my dads presence in my life, I might think I was a monster. He teaches me how to be kind.

Always go to a professional. Many of these traits are expressed by many different people who are NOT Sociopaths.

I’m not a sociopath but I love to crochet and I’ll geek out over yarn. Pull out my phone and be like “wanna see what I made?” If you’re not ready this conversation don’t with me, don’t bring up yarn 😂😂

Girl. I need your podcast. I'm NOT a podcast person. I get bored so easily. I really want to hear YOU talk more and tell us real life examples. I have a BPD, and ADHD and I try to keep myself on "this side of line" very very strictly. And this lead to hard people pleasing as coping mechanism. And trying to unlearn it kind of malfunctions my code of conduct and makes me easily fall to dark side.

I’m curious, how do you tell the difference between an autistic person and a sociopath? I’m autistic and mirror people a lot, but it’s to avoid the constant social rejection I get when I don’t mirror at least a little. I also have, if not dead eyes, an extremely deadpan expression most of the time. I keep going back and forth between us being complete polar opposites and us actually having a lot in common, especially on the surface level.

This could also just be a depressed person who knits or is mimicking you because that's literally something all humans do here and there. Also of course there's people who aren't sociopaths but have some traits, there's also probably many sociopaths that you just can't tell are sociopaths.

I have met a handful of people in my life with “dead eyes”. I know them when I see them and they scare me. I’m an empath but I also have BPD and CPTSD and I’m always going to have to consciously catch myself starting to split, for me it generally only happens with “safe people” that I know will love me anyway, almost like how your kids are worst behaved for you as their parent but behave with other people. It never occurred to me that these might be sociopaths I just know they make me very uncomfortable and I have a hard time relating. Great reminder to approach others with compassion and not judgment. I’m so glad I found your channel, thank you for sharing your story! ❤

We smirk. Unless we make a conscious effort to smile.

Do you mean soulless eyes? That’s what I call them.

The eyes thing is very true.
One great way to spot these people is by being raised by them. I can smell one on my radar from a mile away.

I have PTSD from abuse and manic depression, and we have similar symptoms. The dead and apathetic expression, lying/people pleasing with trying to relate to your hobbies to matching the same energy as another person. It is uncanny how long I thought I was a sociopath just because my symptoms overlap.

They have dead eyes until you call them out... then you see the inner demon face to face.

I'm diagnosed, and I have the dead pan face. In fact, I'm known for holding a stare and winning staring contests with cats.

I find these really interesting and it helps me to learn more about the people that I've encountered who traumatized me in my life and narcissistic qualities or characteristics or tendencies that I may or may not have picked up from those relationships

People with ADHD and autism also relate to others by telling them oh I like this too and in case they themselfs don't, think about a person who they know who does and then tell that to emphasize with you. This is not! a test to figure out if someone has ASPD. In most cases you will have spotted someone with ADHD or ASD. The reasoning behind it is different, but the action is similar. So please be careful!

What sucks is I tend to try to relate to what somebody tells me, either through myself or people ik. It's my way of saying "hey, I'm paying attention to what you say" and is a very common thing for people with adhd to do.
Like for example, you say you knit. I tell you that my friend knits (two do actually, they enjoy knitting frogs and mushroom related things), but it's not because I'm making it up to get closer to you or like make you think we're alike, or me trying to make the convo about me (alotta people say this is how it comes off as). It's literally just me trying to not seem aloof bc I don't know how to properly have a conversation.
