I remember I found it weird how I could bench above 225lbs for reps without ever having done direct bench work. Turns out it was the carryover from push-ups and dips.

Slingshot dips are a life saver for me. My Anthropometry makes most horizontal press impossible for me without huge discomfort in the shoulder socket and biceps tendons and I was stuck for months at 5x5 with 3 plates dips at around 77kg before using a weak slingshot of 10%. 2 years later I can double 105kg and do 5x5 with 90kg at 82kg BW. My shoulders are fine and I have no problem at all. 🙏

Your weighted calisthenics videos are gold!! What are you thoughts on weighted ring training, and how should it be implemented. Also would the slingshot be recommended for a late novice

Started doing dips again realised you soon loose tricep strength without them

Weighted straight bar dips is another amazing variation that noone is using or even talks about. It puts even more focus on the chest (when done properly) and if you control the incline, is a massive traps and core builder as well. Hard AF tho because of the stabilizing elements that come into play by not being between 2 parallel bars, highly recommend you try it out.

I started doing

OHP

DIPS
Pullups

ROWS

for my upper body days and I've gained so much size on my shoulders and back. Calisthenic movements are underrated

My favorite variation is grabbing a nacho and dipping it in mayo

Perfect dips
1) do them on rings/narrow bars
2) do them from dead stop
3) activate your lats
4) externally rotate your arms

Great vid Alex! This has sorted me out for my volume day where I'll be doing the dip and ohp combo! More variations welcome!

That was an awesome instructional! I love doing dips because of the safety factor when going heavy, but never thought of these variations, especially the slingshot dip! Keep up the good work!

I’ve actually been doing the dead dip for a long time - serious gains. My philosophy was “if it works on the rows, why not the dip” I added 30 kg to my bench in 6 months.

I need to mention, that I am a 16 year old teenager, who’s been training for 2 years, so “noob gains” maybe a factor in my large progress.

My bench and ohp benefitted from the dead dip, and my numbers are as such.

Bench press: 100 kg
Overhead press: 50 kg 5x5
