The money you spend on a suit isn't to make you look great on the first wear, its to make you look great on the 50th, or 100th, or 200th wear. You're paying for longevity.

For me tailoring has always been the biggest factor in making a suit look expensive. Right out of college I bought a few $200 suits from a company that used to be popular in the mens youtube space and went out of business. I didnt have alot of money, but I had a good relationship with a local tailor. The man was a wizard and was able to make those cheaper suits fit me like a glove. I got a ton of compliments from guys at work wearing suits close to $1000 and they asked where I got my suits. I also got a ton of complements from women at weddings as well. Tailoring can't make up for horrible fabric, but if the fabric is "ok", having it fit you very well can elevate a suit beyond its price tag. Its also a good reminder that so many men wear horribly fitting suits that having one that fits you well can make you stand out and is much more comfortable to wear

I don’t know if there is such a thing as an off-the-rack suit that is worth a damn. I recently shopped Joseph Bank and Brooks Brothers and was appalled that suits costing $700+ were made so poorly. No fabric fiber content tags. Arm holes that are so cavernous you can only wear it in a standing position. Massively long sleeves that needed shortening on my 36 sleeve length. Collar rolls on the high back that could serve as jumps for my kids’ matchbox cars. Bonobos had better fit matching options but at the the price point I really think most men should opt for a made-to-measure option.

Sure, an inexpensive off-the-rack suit can be had for a man on a modest budget, but he’ll spend double the price of that suit getting the alterations to make it well-fitted.

If you have a muscular athletic build like this 210 pound former Marine with a 47 chest and 34 waist, just save your time and go to some made-to-measure options.

Feel that a lot of guys need to make acquaintances with a tailor ... even a good seamstress can do the alterations. I found a skilled seamstress who charges less than a tailor. Money well spent; Buy less expensive items and have them fixed. Too many men running about in ill- fitted clothes .. fix even casual pieces while you're at it.

Gentlemen I am here to tell you that thrift stores are the perfect place to find quality formal/dress wear. At least in the U.S. I have a closet full of name brand in worn or hardly worn dress attire. A good tailor and dry cleaner and you can look like a million bucks for almost nothing.

I like these kind of videos. Most menswear influencers push their viewers to buy expensive clothes ("if you buy cheap, you look cheap!"), shaming them into purchases they wouldn't do. People aren't as knowledgeable as before, and are easily fooled if you get some basics right.

Hehe First comment.

Yes, it’s entirely possible.
I was down-at-heel, with an impending court case and needed a suit.

I went to TKMax and purchased suit, shoes, shirt and tie for £115 (I’m in UK).
The suit was £50 and I found this skilful Nepalese seamstress who tailored the suit and shirt for £55 (more than the suit).
I rocked up at my son’s school concert and bumped into some old friends who said I looked like James Bond. Job done!

Ties are about as good of a value for money you can get. For just 10 quid or so, you can upgrade from: "oh, he just put on the only suit he has" to wearing a complete "suit look" especially if the tie is of a relatively strong colour, you show that you can match colours, that you are used to wearing ties (a lot of men avoid it, just because they aren't comfortable with something touching their neck, which is only a matter of habit), and if you have to come to the same place twice, you just change your tie, and for 10 quid, you look like you are wearing something altogether different than last time

The price of the suit isn't as important as how well it's tailored.

My best suits are under ten dollars. A Chinese estate donated suits to our local second hand store and the person is built just like me. They are custom bespoke too with his name stitched inside. I just bought a black herringbone for 13 because they raised their prices but but the fabric is beautiful and immaculate

It has been said _(The Chap's Guide)_, what ever you spend on your suit, you should spend a bit more on the shoes, as they carry your entire weight, like car tyres take the weight of your car!

I been getting compliments on the Calvin Klein Brand suit I wear even though it is a mainly synthetic fabric however I also own linnen and cotton and wool Attire in regards to the Satorial style

Never, NEVER steam the front of a suit jacket if it is fused (glued). You'll destroy it. Sewed canvas jackets are safe.

I'm disappointed that you are advertising cheap suits (and shoes) from China. What's next, Coofandy?

I make it look expensive by having it tailored, then spending just a little more on a nice quality shirt and tie 👔

No need to spend a lot of money on the accessories. Plenty of nice second hand ties and other accessories to be had for very little money in charity shops or on eBay.
-and if you get a set with matching tie and pocket square, just don't wear them together.

The gem of this presentation, a SELDOM heard tip, is: don't iron a suit. Thank you Antonio; --time invested with RMRS is always a value!

My personal top tip: suspenders.
But only really applicable for somewhat special or higher end occasions. Don’t show up for a 9-5 in suspenders please 😅
