Want to know how to clean a mechanical keyboard? Today I’m going to show you how to easily clean a disgustingly filthy mechanical keyboard. I popped off one of the keys and it had crumbs and dog hair - gross. So I put together this tutorial on the best way to clean a mechanical.

I’ll take you through each stage of cleaning your mechanical keyboard. Everything from removing the keys, soaking the keys, removing loose debris from the keyboard, cleaning the keyboard plate, cleaning the keys and finally reseating the keys.

Have to add 2 things.
1 - some cheaper dye subbed caps will be destroyed when using hot water and dish soap. Be aware and check it on one key before u throw all of em in water. Better double shot pbt caps should not have the problems.

2 - the easiest way to clean the board itself is just putting it into the dishwasher on low temperature and let it dry for several days upside down (don't use a hairdryer).

Bonus - if u own a hotswap board u can pull out the switches in order not to get them wet or accidentally wash the lube off, if the switches are lubed.

Not gonna lie, I have avoided this on purpose because it's a rabbit hole. it takes a lot more time and effort than one might think. keyboards get nasty no matter what you do so the only way is to clean them every once in a while.

I'll be sure to get some supplies to follow along this guide. Great video!

The spacebar key, possibly the enter key and shift keys as they are larger are a bit different to seat. They have a metal bar to deal with. I would have included seating those in your video as that is not simply a push down.

When I do clean my keyboard, I use that slime that you can buy on Amazon along with compressed air. You just jam it onto the top of the keys and it gets most of the crud off the caps. Done in 3-4 minutes...

I sprayed the board with a cleaning solution and now after not using it some keys will get stuck and I'll have to press really hard to get it "free" and also the c key only works when I press on it hard

Wow, that was a really dirty keyboard. That was really informative, but here is my problem, I don't have a mechanical kb, and the keys on my Logitech wireless kb are kinda sunk into the kb, and they are so close together, there isn't a way to really get hold of the keys so they can be removed for cleaning. Do you have any suggestions? So you know exactly what kind of kb I have, it is the Logitech wireless K800 backlit keyboard. I look forward to hearing from you.
