Hand hygiene, either with soap and water or with alcohol-based handrub, is one of the best ways to avoid getting sick and spreading infections to others. Indeed, hand hygiene is an easy, inexpensive, and effective mean to prevent the spread of germs and keep everyone healthy.

When should you clean your hands?

- BEFORE, DURING and AFTER preparing food.
- BEFORE eating food.
- BEFORE and AFTER caring for a sick person.
- AFTER using the toilet.
- AFTER changing the diapers or cleaning up a child who has used the toilet.
- AFTER blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.
- AFTER touching animal, animal feed, or animal waste.
- AFTER touching garbage.

The process of washing hands is explained well. But there is no requirement to leave the tap running. Saving water is equally important

The people here complaining about the water being left running--please educate yourselves on the importance of infection control and prevention. Nurses and doctors are aware of all the nuances about it and are trained specifically to leave the water running. Any attempts to turn the faucet off with elbow or soaped up hands invalidates the entire handwashing session. This is how it's been done for years. You'd be surprised at how surgeons meticulously wash their hands. With knee-controlled or foot-pedalled faucets however, it completely erases the need to leave the water running, though not every hospital has implemented it because it means extra costs.

When you go to surgery you scrub under and rinse those nails!! NOBODY ON YOUTUBE OR TV BRINGS UP GETTING UNDER THE NAILS OR KEEPING THEM TRIMMED AS LOW AS IS COMFORTABLE. This is not the time for manicures and long nails. Try getting out in the dirt in your garden and you'll see later just how much work it takes to get the dirt out of the creases and under your nails even with a great nail brush. Imagine the virus and bacterial particulate matter that is invisible to the naked eye. It's also not about how LONG--though that is important. It's about getting every single place as well and rinsing thoroughly.
