While I love your videos, it's sickening that I had to seek this information out instead of being taught it through school or one of the many numerous trips to the dentist. Dental health is health care but it's not treated nearly as seriously. So you have my deepest thanks for providing an amazing source of information about this topic.

Schools never teaches you three things:
Money
Taxes
If you should brush before or after breakfast

I’m a dental hygienist and I get asked this all the time. I actually wake up, brush then eat. When I get to work, I brush before I get my first patient. But I don’t expect them to do that. I honestly and wowed by your answer. You definitely have a point. Now I need to change/adjust my response to these patients. 😂

Just wanted you to know that you’ve helped me so much throughout Dental Hygiene school, I graduate next month and wanted you to know how much knowledge I feel like I’ve gained from watching your videos. You’ve been such a motivation of the kind of hygienist I want to be when I’m in the workforce as well. So here’s a huge THANK YOU 💕

Interesting topic, and you explain it so clearly that it makes sense. I have never thought of brushing my teeth when I wake up but on the plus side it’s never too late to change part of your morning routine. I shall be giving this a try for sure 🙂

I've NEVER heard anybody in the dental industry say you should brush before and after breakfast. What's interesting is I've always done this since I was a kid... initially to get rid of my bad breath to be around other people in the morning, then after to get my teeth clean from eating. I've never had a cavity in my life either.

I always brushed my teeth before breakfast. During my braces phase, I got used to swishing my mouth with water after each meal, including breakfast, because food got caught in my braces. Since I was on the go, I had no time to brush and sometimes, its hard to brush your teeth at work! Now with the braces off, I still swish my mouth with water after every meal. I use dental picks to get any food bits out of my teeth too, lol.

Thank you for making this video! 💐 I got an SLS- free toothpaste for my son to use first thing in the morning so his sense of taste won’t be affected & he can enjoy his breakfast. Maybe a follow-up dental short on best dentifrice options for brushing before breakfast would be good? Thanks again!

Thank you for this information. I've always brushed my teeth after breakfast and coffee which yes, leaves you with fresh minty breath and clean shiny teeth for the rest of the morning, especially helpful if i have to head to university right after, but i've also noticed that brushing my teeth after breakfast makes my mouth becomes so dry, even if i drink a LOT of water, probably due to fluoride in the toothpaste. So i'm going to try brushing before breakfast. I also think using mouthwash once a day before you head to work/school/uni like me will be very effective for most of you and have the same fresh effect you desire, plus without that dryness in your mouth.

I wish I learned everything I now know thanks to you, when I was younger. My oral health has improved so much and I often think about how much pain I could have avoided. If I had only known.

I’ve somehow been so lucky so far (I guess good genetics maybe). I’m 35 and have only had a couple cavities after getting braces removed in high school. But, I’ve been doing it wrong all along! I’ve always brushed after breakfast, and unfortunately I was doing it IMMEDIATELY after eating. Then I’ve always brushed before bed, rinsed, flossed, and rinsed again…so my order of things was way off! Now I brush upon awakening, eat 30-40 mins after that, and for my nighttime routine, I actually floss first, rinse with water, THEN brush, and then I do not rinse, although that last part was a tricky habit to break. I’ve always had great dental checkups, but I feel like your videos will help out my oral cavity that much more! Thank you!! 🎉 I now wear a custom NTI night guard too after getting a new dentist that noticed surface fractures in a lot of my incisors and missing points on my molars from nighttime bruxism…I had no idea I was doing it and somehow my previous dentists never picked up on it (it was Aspen Dental, who I’ve been told by many, including my new dentist, that like other corporations, they are not very reputable)! Very glad I switched and went the private dentist route…also, he is waaaay more affordable! 😂

You can and should neuralize the PH in your mouth before every teeth brush session. You can use xylitol for this or a mouth wash with chlorine dioxide.
