That's old school! My mentor was like this. He'd do half reps on lower and then upper then full and have it all mixed up. I got serious gains in a short time where I was stuck for many many months. Love it.

Partials and pause reps (in the middle of the rep) are excellent.

Partial builds builds up the tension due to compression of movement - then a full extension blows up the tension through the rest of the arm and further in body
Opposite to having ress bands to when priming a lock out - this is priming a push-out >into< a full lock out
