Go as far as you can comfortably go. I guarantee that if you are touching your chest with a slight pause you will not need as much weight. Probably why most people stop inches away

Yes you SHOULD for the best range of motion to avoid injuries and imbalances. Which happens so much from bench pressing with suboptimal form.

I wish i had him as a coach when i started lifting as a teen. I literally tore my pec tendon because i was taught to touch my chest with the bar. I still do almost 15 years later out of habit but i now got a deeper understanding pf the movement.

Thereโ€™s no right or wrong to working out. Do what works for you that gets you the best results for your own body. You have to think this way because everyoneโ€™s body is different. You canโ€™t have the same technique for everyone that will work for everyone. What may look like sloppy form to someone else might actually work for another person. Stop worrying so much on form and focus on what works and what doesnโ€™t. Iโ€™ve seen some folks that donโ€™t even get the same results as someone else working on the same machines and doing the same workouts. Everyone is totally completely way different. Iโ€™ve been telling folks this for years.

My comfortable stretch limit is where I start the upward phase of my bench press. I used to let the weight push me too low, but doing that with near max weights is a BAD IDEA.

I disagree. If your hand position is right and you press correctly, you can feel it in your chest the whole way. Just gotta be smart about the weight
