I have gone through at least 9 different high-end saddles, and finally found one that works; I have gone through multiple professional bike fittings as well, to make sure my position on the bike is good, and was still having backside pain. There's been a lot of hype around 3D printed saddles, and I was utterly skeptical, but I got a Fizik 3D printed saddle for my Christmas present from my wife, and MAN did it solve all my issues. I used to be in serious pain after about 2 hours, and after a 4 hour ride, it was excruciating; now I can do 4-6 hours and have zero issues. I can't say it will solve everyone's problems, but it's literally a different Universe for me now.

I had a dermatologist recommend cleansing the "area" ASAP after a ride with an anti-bacterial, specifically he suggested HibiClens. I ride 8000 to 9000 miles a year and the saddle still gets uncomfortable, but I've had no sores since heeding his advice.

I increased my indoor riding capability in long workouts by including some one minute low cadence efforts where I stand up and loosen up the position. Helps getting blod flow and prevents painful arms and shoulders as well

I have very bad sit bone pain, it's like sitting on 2 drawing pins 😟
I've found 2 things that have helped me a lot, one is caffeine, it really helps with the pain,
The other is stretching on the bike, I come off the saddle and push my hips forward, hold for 3 seconds and sit back down, instant relief, but only for about 10 minutes, hope this helps 👍

It's also important to note that when you get a new saddle it may take time to get the perfect height/forward placement. That may be completely different to your existing saddle. I upgraded to the Selle Italia Watt Superflow (big investment) and it took about 6 rides to get it perfect. I was surprised how much lower I needed to put it versus the previous Bontrager Verse Comp I had. The bontrager had a bit more flex and cushioning which effectively lowered the height. I just took my torque wrench with me on a few rides and made adjustments on the ride. Now feels pretty perfect.

This was too funny with the complementary pictures alongside James’s dialogue 😅

7:20 " . . . leave it in the comment section DOWN BELOW"? BUTT isn't that were the soreness hurts already?🤣

I was having discomfort very quickly after getting on the saddle and eventually realized it is a very small(few millimeters) difference in saddle height between hand and seat pain.

Ps made the mistake of too big bib shorts too. That was awful. They need to be ultra tight it seems cos they seem to sort of grow when they get sweaty.

Thank you for sharing such informative video. Don't know how effective are the cushion covers for the seat though 🚴‍♂️

6:36 I think I will have nightmares from James applying the sniff test to his bibs. 😱 😁

I just took the Selle Italia saddle from my 2001 Canyon Passione and mounted it on my 2020 Canyon Endurace. Quite naively, I thought this would do the job, but I immediately, on my first ride, I felt discomfort. It only took lowering the saddle by 15mm, which made all the difference.

i have just started rewatching some old episodes of House M.D last night, so when James was discussing saddle sores and boils on the bum I was anticipating a Hugh Laurie impersonation.

I just bought a new saddle. I opted for a shorter nosed one with the cut outs to try and prevent the numbness. I hope not an exercise of buying a lot of saddles. I live too far away from a decent bike shop to see if I can test them. Cheers

did my 43km ride on the second day, and have to give up my cycling career as my ass hurt more then I was tired

Pain eventually goes away after a few weeks of long sessions. At this point you can just bike in your underwear if it's summertime.
