I'm 73. About 50 years ago in a car accident my back was broken. No CT or MRI back then. I had to lie flat in bed for 3-1/2 months and let it heal as it would. That left me 3" shorter and with a 60 degree levorotoscoliosis. When I started walking in my 50's I was in terrible pain after 2 blocks. I got walking sticks and immediately could walk a mile before the same pain. That got better and in the process my arms got stronger. Years later I broke a hip and was told if I could walk again I may never be able to do stairs. 5 years later (at 67) I walked around Lake Cuicocha in Ecuador which was 12 miles and 218 flights of stairs. Very proud of that.

I know this is strange, but I crawl. I started because I lost use of my inner ear from a brain injury. I had begun to compensate by using my eyes to balance myself. But the benefits of crawling went beyond helping my balance issues. I began to notice that my abs were getting stronger. Babies crawl to strengthen their upper core and to develop inner ear. So they are prepared to walk. I had to go back and develop again what was lost.

I walk every weekday morning for an hour at 5.30. I call it my walking meditation. I have a theme that i put into my mind and I discuss it in my head. "Consistency" in January, "discipline" in february. I get such wonderful thoughts and I write them down and use those ideas in my life. Just an amazing addition to my life.

Well done. 👍 My dad started walking five miles a day when he reached 60. He's 72 now and we don't know where he is 🤔

18 months ago I hit my tipping point when I stepped on the scale at my highest weight. 5'2" and 189lbs. I was mortified. I started walking. First with my little shih tzu's around the block....then to the park and back and now we walk to the river and back almost every day. In 18 months I went from 189lbs to 125lbs. I sleep better at night. I also went to walmart and got plantar fascitis insoles. What a GAME CHANGER! I crave healthier foods, no longer crave sweets and what walking has done FOR my mental health is nothing short of a miracle. Getting outside, keeping my head up to look at my surroundings, getting off social media....it sounds cheezy but I found myself. I found Ali. I talk to the dogs, I talk to myself and I talk to God on my walks. It happened so organically and it was a slow change but a change that I so desperately needed. Now, to get rid of my mommy pouch and I'll be ready for swimsuit season. (We put a pool in 2 years ago...OURSELVES!!!) This will be the first summer I'm actually looking forward to in a LONG TIME. Not because I'm thinner but because I'm healthier and very proud of myself that I took control of my life. Is my body instagram perfect? no. That's not and was never my goal. I'm 48. I'm too old for that shit. LOL.

I walk around the inside of my house for exercise. I set a timer every 35 minutes. I do 5 laps around my house, which is 1000 steps/10 minutes. I do this at least 10 times in a day. I end up doing 10, 000 steps per day. On a good day, I will reach 14, 000 steps, which is 9.5kms or 2.5 hours. My personal best has been 18, 000 steps. I'm 53 and thus is the only exercise I do and it is helping me to lose weight. I like it because I don't have the excuse of bad weather stopping me from exercising.

If anyone needs further inspiration because they can’t get started, I refer you to that 340lb man in America who was too big to go to the gym so all he did was walk to the supermarket every day to buy food FOR THAT DAY. Every single day he’d set off and bought healthy foods to eat each day which he carried back home puffing, panting and sweating HARD - and the weight fell off him. He looks amazing now.

Walking is so under appreciated! I was an overweight teen (almost 200 pounds) and all I did was decide to cut out or cut back on junk and sweets, and I walked everywhere with my friends. I ended up losing 50 pounds over a couple years and I kept it off. Now at almost 30 I count calories and have started some weight training, I’m down to 135. ☺️

I lost 40 pounds walking 1 hr a day. Now I love it! I catch up on my favorite shows, read a book, plan my schedule or finish work on my phone as I workout. I actually look forward to my morning walks now a days.

"Exercise is only 20 percent of weight loss. You can't out exercise a bad diet"

1) Form, Insoles, Stretching
2) Start with 15 min walk every day and build up to 5 min more each week. Start slow.
3) "No such thing as bad weather just bad clothing"
4) Pump/swing arms builds momentum
5) Map out your walk
6) Up beat music
7) If in pain, then rest
8) Safety first; one headphone in one ear, well lit area
9) STretch after walking

Before I started running, I did walking and went from 176 to 136 pounds in about a year or so. Then I switched to running and now I’m at my dream weight of 110 pounds, which I hadn’t been since high school. People really underestimate walking though. It helped both of my parents lose weight too!!

I lost over 80 pounds only by walking in under a year, now I make walking a priority not only for the sake of my weight but because I've grown to enjoy it very much. I've always been very insecure about my weight and thought my body was beyond help, so I used to think it was a myth when people would say walking really is the best exercise, until it changed my life.

I started walking 9 days ago every day, I’m walking roughly 3km a day for 45 mins in the morning and I feel great! I’m very over weight so this is the perfect exercise for me plus I don’t find it too challenging. Can’t beat fresh air in the middle of the countryside:) thanks for the video xx
