I thoroughly recommend to all beginners- DON'T SPEND TOO MUCH TIME TRYING TO LEARN PIECES OUT OF YOUR RANGE! This is why: you can develop very bad habits AND if you develop muscle memory of the piece BUT with bad technique and mistakes, it is hard to actually fix those mistakes and bad techniques when you do come to learn the piece in the future!

i’ve been playing piano for a good 12 years, and funnily enough, playing difficult pieces outside of my range actually helped me progress.
for some begginers, it’s not the ability, it’s the dedication.
put in the practice and you’ll be to do it, just don’t start too early and i can guarantee some challenging pieces will definitely help.

I can play this entire piece with my eyes closed now and I definitely started out like that lol

I think having songs out of your range as kind of like goal songs is a great thing to have. When I started learning, I spent hours and hours trying to play Utada Hikaru's Passion and while I couldn't play nearly as well as the video, it gave me the passion to keep playing piano and keep practicing so I could eventually become good enough to play. While I made mistakes and learned some bad habits, it taught me so much about arpeggios, octaves, and rhythm that I still incorporate into my play years and years later. I found this so much more helpful than just grinding Hanon exercise because it gave me a practical reason to apply techniques. Keep grinding away at Fantasie Improptu and you will find all aspects of your playing to get better.

I started with hard pieces sadly and just kept progressing those pieces and as i play more and more, I listen to myself and try to resolve any issues. Self taught two years now and I can play some of fantasie, even un sospiro. I played in the talent show last year during my junior year of highschool.

I don't even have the right hand beginning but feels like you are going to conquer the world with that first left hand notes

This is so relatable. With only a couple months, I’m trying this peice for fun, and this is 100% accurate

every pianist goes through THAT phase of wanting to play stuff outside your league it feels like lol
right now with 3, 5 years under my belt, I like practicing stuff in my range or just a tad outside
I tried the fantaisie impromptu last year by my teachers recommendation, but it failed horribly because my polyrhythm is garbage lol

That’s a great piece. I played it a couple of years ago but gave up on it repeating it all the time for just staying consistent…

Tip that helped me, learn both the right and left hand seperately, then when combining play it slow and play the joining notes (where they intersect) louder to get a feeling for the timing. Gradually improve the speed and fill in the rest of the notes to properly understand the timing of the 3:4 polyrythm
