Each one of these vids shock me, in an empowering and sorrowful way.

And it just seems to get worse in adulthood when you must work, must care for yourself, when you're already exhausted from constantly performing in childhood.

My parents constantly called me lazy as a kid despite being overloaded with activities and school/work. It affect me to this day.

I’m 33 and still working on reframing my thoughts from “I’m too lazy to ___” to “I’m not prioritizing ____ right now.”

One of my father's favourite lines was shouting, "You can't be stressed! I am the only one who is stressed."

And when you’re an adult and you try try to bring this up you get immediately shut down. Thank you for the validation. 👍

Ah, so THIS is why my gut has been tight ever since I can remember! And I’m almost 65! My childhood home was stressful and abusive, and my parents’ marriage was bad. I certainly absorbed their stress.

Me randomly watching cat videos and laughing, swipe up and I watch this and I randomly start crying. How can a 20second clip explain my life after 50 years of living it without having a clue.

The truth nuke just exploded. I wish I could show this to all the people who called me lazy, but it wouldn't matter. It matters to me, though. It matters to a lot of us -- now we know the concept and the words for what happened to us. And we know we weren't lazy.

Thank you, Nicole.

I developed an autoimmune disorder, perhaps in response to trauma. "You're not sick, you're lazy" is a common ableist trope we hear from both parents and society.

I'm learning so much from you. I was constantly called lazy in my parent's war zone of a home. Now I understand. Thank you.

thank you for this. I wish these shorts would pop up on everyone's feeds and force people to listen.

Still feeling like not doing enough even though I fought my way out of that toxic childhood

Thank you so much for this one. It's heinous how many abusive parents call their kids lazy because of this and then this pattern continues when many never find a self place to live so this can turn off so it looks like the kid is stuck in a constant state of self sabotage when they literally just can't turn this off to function. Can you make a video on how to get out of this state when you never find safe people in your life if that is even possible? Thanks

Mom called me lazy and liar everyday for 18yrs. I was frozen and terrified. I never lied but I said whatever to try and keep from being mocked or screamed at.

Yes, except I did amazingly well at school because all I could do was read random books that were in the house (like Nietzche and Sheakeaspeare). So now it sounds like I had a cultured infance when I had a very lonely one. I was ✨️perfect✨️ tho, so, invisible.

This all day at home and bullied at school. My entire adult life I've been seeking a parent and often misidentify malignant authority as safe because I learned from a young age to not trust my gut feelings.
