7 Signs You’re Not Lazy, But Depressed

Depression is a common mental health condition that affects millions of people worldwide. Unfortunately, due to the stigma surrounding mental illness, many people still misunderstand the true nature of depression and its impact on individuals. One of the most common misconceptions is that depression is simply a form of laziness. This is a harmful and inaccurate assumption that can lead to individuals with depression feeling misunderstood, isolated, and unsupported. In reality, depression is a complex illness with a range of physical, emotional, and cognitive symptoms that can make even the simplest of tasks feel overwhelming. In this video, we'll explore why depression is not the same as laziness, and why understanding this distinction is crucial to supporting those who are struggling with this condition.

Reminder & Disclaimer: Seeking help from a mental health professional can provide effective treatment options that can help individuals manage their symptoms and regain a sense of control over their lives. If you are struggling with depression, know that you are not alone, and help is available.

My family understand what others feel what I feel but they never understand what I feel.

They said, "People out there going through harder and harsher than you. Be grateful! Grow up!"

Fighting through it despite the suicidal ideations sometimes, I just remember those I care about and keep pushing.

Every last one of them. It's wonderful to know that I'm NOT lazy... But it's also kind of scary, knowing it's outside my control. I used to be good at "picking myself up by my bootstraps." Now, though, I can't even GRAB my bootstraps.

Wow, crazy timing for me when you released this video when you did. Been dealing with one of the worse bouts of depression in my entire life this week. Been completely socially withdrawn, loss of motivation to do anything, angry and frustrated at myself for the choices I made, exhausted all the time, feeling super overwhelmed with anything and had several panic attacks at night. Been a rough one for sure. Always feel better after watching your videos and realize I'm not alone in my struggles.

I rarely watch such videos but i wanted to see out of curiousity. And although most of these seem to describe me i still feel as if i shouldn't even propose the possibility of it to the people near me. As in- it isn't serious enough. But i find comfort in these videos and i hope others do to.

A very accurate description. It takes everything from you, makes you unfunctional, tortures you 24/7 and never stops, leaving you only one way out.

I really want to thank you. I used to watch some of your videos and they helped me realize that something might be wrong with me. I was in 6th grade at the time and I was so confused about why I couldn't feel as happy or excited about things like everyone else. I'm in 8th now, I'm diagnosed, and it's gotten worse since then. Thank you for being the reason I reached out to someone ♡

Thank you for saying “you don’t know why you feel this way” For days I’ve been trying to figure out what this feeling is or why since my life is relatively good compared to most (finances could be a factor though) And I thought it came out of nowhere but I’m realizing it’s slowly been getting worse. I feel lost, disconnected, unmotivated, tired, and just completely off overall.

Based on what you mentioned here, I had a period of depression at a certain stage of my life, which it takes place right after I resign from college.
I never had treatment so I should overcome it by myself and it takes at least 4 years of my productive years. Now I feel that I already got over it and rebuild my life again. I learn psychology and more so I can understand the symptoms and what to do if I or someone else gets through it on daily basis.
Thank you for the video!

Ouch. I pretty much already knew I was depressed (and why - major financial problems from long unemployment/ job issues, loss of a beloved kitty, the threat of homelessness), but this was way too painfully accurate. I'm not sure counseling will help when I can barely get myself out of bed sometimes though, and any real effort is exhausting.

It seems like the people that are the kindest, most caring, loving, genuine human beings suffer with this insidious issue

Edit: I found a reply telling me that my depiction and how I described it was "weak" (I'm not mad or angry, if anything, I totally agree) so I hope to make it a bit better, or "strengthen" my depiction to be more accurate. If you would like to make some changes of your own, then notify me and I'll try my best to edit it appropriately.

So regarding the first reply about this-ish, first of all, don't lose hope. If your friends are being rude, tell them, or get new friends, depending on the level of toxicity (or don't. Please, if I'm being dramatic about it, definitely *don't* follow my advice as I'm literally just a guy on the internet). But definitely find a place to vent. I, personally, find talking out my feelings to be a great way to calm down. Either that or draw it out.

Second, if you (not directly talking about the person* to reply (*I can't remember their name)) have depression, talk to a professional. I cannot stress this enough, find a good therapist or doctor or *whatever*. But find someone, and talk to them. That's definitely very important! As stated before/earlier, I am LITERALLY just a guy on the internet, so take other aligations with a speck of salt. Except this. TALK TO A PROFESSIONAL!!

You know, I really like this channel's community. I can share a lot of my insecurities here and people actually try to help me get through it. Whenever I share my struggles IRL, people don't care and/or don't know how to help. Sometimes they say the most useless stuff ever, like "just get better." Yeah, I would if it was that easy lol.

That said, I am doing better than I have been a few weeks ago. I may still not have improved much, but I improved a little bit and that's all good with me. As long as I'm at least inching forward, I'm satisfied.
