10 Things You Didn't Know About The Burbs

This video is a reupload (plus some new bits) because in the last few months, Universal Pictures seems to have forgotten that the 'Fair Use Act 1976' exists, and has been aggressively claiming any and every video of mine that has anything to do with Universal Pictures, completely abusing the Copy Right Claim system here on YouTube. Fair Use does exist and it gives YouTubers the freedom to discuss movies and critique them, for educational, satirical, and entertainment purposes! I hope one day YouTubers are protected more, from companies that are a bit too trigger happy with the Copyright Claim button!

One thing I DID know about "The Burbs"? It's one of the best movies ever made.

One of my favorite lesser-known facts about The Burbs is that Ric Ducommun (Art) was the co-founder of the classic skateboard brand SkullSkates, along with his brother, and arranged for the "product placement" of the SkullSkates t-shirt worn by one of Ricky's friends. Thanks for another great one Minty!

This film is yet another reason why I miss the 80s so much and why they were so great.
The fact that a zany, quotable, and fun movie like this could be made and released on the big screen is so awesone. It wasnt trying to make any sort of statement it was just trying to entertain us for a couple of hours.
The Burbs definitely isn't for everyone but those who get the humor and grew up in the Burbs really love it. As do I. This was back in the days when Hollywood still knew they were in the entertainment business and not the political business

The Burbs is at the top of my favorite movie list, easily in the top 10. My wife and I have watched it countless times and use quotes from it all the time. I love how the background sounds, music, and TV bits are synched to the dialogue and actions of the characters. It's juxtaposed like the way old cartoons were made. It's a very interesting film on many levels, and I pick up new things every time I watch it.

The poodle, who's name is Darla, was also in Peewee's Big Adventure, Coach, Eerie Indiana and Batman Returns!

Bay Window was a play on Hitchcock’s Rear Window where Jimmy Stewart suspects his neighbour of killing his wife. Bay Window was a big must have feature on many suburban houses particularly in the 80’s

I got to meet Joe Dante at a horror convention this past year. He loved my STARS uniform from Resident Evil.

Mark: Art!

Bonnie: Your wife's home!

Mark: And your house is on fire!

Art: [horrified] MY WIFE IS HOME?!

As a teenager, I saw this on Home video. I did not know what to expect. I did not read about the movie or know anything other than it had some famous actors. When I begin watching it, I thought it was going to be boring, but just a couple of minutes in, I was hooked and at the end my mind was blown! I thought the narrative by Cory really added to the movie.

Wow! lots of stuff I did not know this time! - Including Queenie was also Precious!!! - that one is worth the whole list. There is also a hidden comic note that not many people spot that is worth your list.... Queenie's owner, Walter was played by comedic veteran Gale Gordon whom many remember from The Lucy Show (Mr. Mooney) and Here's Lucy. On the Burb's set in Walter's living room, you can see real photos of Gale Gordon including one carefully placed up front that is a publicity photo of himself and Lucile Ball. 😃

“‘It came with the frame?’” I just rewatched this recently, it still holds up. I tried to quote Art’s chant but YT didn’t like it. You know, the “Ray, you’re chanting, ” chant? 🤣
