Even in 2024, I would rather a live action TMNT movie akin to the 1990s version rather than the 100% CGI version

Another fun fact: Ernie Reyes, Jr. - who played Keno in the second film - was also the stunt actor in the Donatello suit in this first movie.

This movie found the perfect balance between serious and silly that TMNT needed.

To think that the stuntmen were able to do so martial arts moves while inside the turtle costumes is really amazing. No CGI could ever do better than that especially the nunchucks scene between Mickey and the foot clan member

As a kid the 2nd one was always my favorite. Now, as an adult the first one having a darker tone and the turtles actually get to use their weapons, this is my favorite one.

my younger brother and I watched this movie everyday for like 5 years, no kidding
He has since passed away due to a seizure many years ago, but we still have the tmnt tape in the vcr in his old room (which has changed over the years) but the small CRT, VCR and TMNT remain.

Here's another fun fact that people may or may not know. The scene where Raphael rolls across the hood of the taxicab when chasing Casey Jones and the passenger says, "What the heck was that?" to the driver...well, that passenger was none other than Josh Pais himself, who played Raphael in the movie.

Talk about a blast from the past! I was 8 when this movie came out and loved it!! I still think it's the best all these years later 🙌👏

I was 7 when this came out and already a huge TMNT fan. I remember being shocked when Raphael said "damn". The more mature and gritty nature of the film changed how we played with the toys (when our parents weren't watching).

Robin Williams was a legend, he also loved Legend Of Zelda and named his daughter after the princess.

A bit of a twist on Henson's perceptions; according to Brian Jay Jones who wrote the most recent Jim Henson biography, Henson wasn't a fan of the comics, but thought the idea was a good project for his "Creature Shop" (who had taken a hit financially due to LABYRINTH's failure).

The first TMNT movie actually premiered a month before Henson passed away and apparently, he got a kick out of seeing the huge lines waiting to see it saying, "Guess they liked it." It was the last success he ever saw, as THE WITCHES was an unpleasant experience. Author Roald Dahl was constantly sending complaints to Henson about the inaccuracies of the film from his novel (and apparently, Dahl himself even picketed his protests at the premiere).

I was born in 1980. I remember seeing this film and Home Alone, in the theatre that year. What a time to be alive!

By far the best TMNT movie. The effects are outstanding, allowing so much emotion and life to the characters, and all practical. Add to that the darker tone, and the great stunt work, and it's like the book characters just came to life on the screen. You can do whatever you want with digital effects and it doesn't hold a candle to seeing physical turtles (and Shredder) come to life.

I still have my original VHS of this movie. I was obsessed with it as a kid. Raphael is still my favorite.

I saw this movie in a cinema here in the Philippines way back in 1990. The cinema was fully packed and many times the moviegoers cheered.
