I’m 72 and I had physical therapy for both knees which are arthritic...I AVOIDED KNEE REPLACEMENTS and after a few weeks of regular p.t. Exercises I was able to avoid pain. I started this a couple years ago and still do it a couple times a week to keep the pain away.

Stay as lean as possible. Stay of inflammatory foods (carbs and oxalate foods), and keep moving/stretching. Stay hydrated also. It is a lot of maintenance to get old, but it has to be done or one will suffer worse for the wear.

I work for a physical therapy clinic. I'm not a physical therapist but I've worked with many. With the knee like some people have said moving it and stretching it are good. But also and probably most importantly you need to strengthen that knee.

For many people they haven't worked out in years so you can start with simple things like squats without weight. Now of course everyone has a pain tolerance and everyone should go to what they can tolerate so really no more than a 3 or a 4 max. You can also do simple things like stairs. You only need 1 step and you can step up and down. You can hold onto a railing especially at first but eventually you should become strong enough to where you can do without.

You can always go physical therapy, knee arthritis is easier to treat than you might think. The therapist is going to do a lot of hands on things like moving the knee into flexion (bending) and extension (straightening) if you have a very low pain tolerance have a doctor do prp or gel shot first before therapy. However long term I don't think it's a good idea to keep getting shots onto the knee. So I or two in the beginning should be enough and by the time it wears off that knee should be strong enough where' the pain is reduced to a minimum.

Sorry this is super long if there's anything you didn't understand or have questions about free to respond. 👍

Thank you for educating me about osteoarthritis, its symptoms, and the most effective pain relief techniques, despite the disease's incurability. You also explained the distinction between Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis so well!

Im 18 and had acl surgery last year, didnt get full extension because of a cyclops lesion and abused my knee trying to straighten it. I finally got surgery but I guess now I have arthritis for the rest of my life.

Suffering from severe arthritis located in my back, hips, both knees, both hands, both legs, ankles, and feet, I used compression gloves, compression socks, heat wraps, aspercreme patches, aspercreme numbing cream, icy hots patches and advil. The pain of arthritis is so severe it interferes with my concentration and sleeping. Both of my legs, hips, back were injured in an accident. I also suffering from constipation. Sensitive to cold air makes the pains, and constipation to be severe.
